This is from the 2008 Presidential Questionaire answered by Obama on this very question...

http://a4.g.akamai.net/f/4/19675/0/n...pdfs/obama.pdf

Like many Americans and even many within the LGBT communities, he's willing to settle for civil unions. Just reserve the term 'marriage' for hetrosexual marriages.

And vote wise, he did vote against an amendment stating 'marriage only between man and woman' when they tried to pass it in congress. He's not against same-sex couples having the same rights as married hetrosexual couples...He's just against the term 'marriage' being applied legally to those unions.

Further more, questions 7-10 also have to do with granting rights to same-sex couples on the issues of extending federal benefits, being included in the Family And Medical Leave Act, being included in SS survivor benefits, included in insurance/employment benefits, allowing adoption, and allowing citizenship to non-American same-sex spouses Obama highlighted 'Support' for all those allowances...

Hence the reason the LGBT communities are behind him and supporting him for President. And for a Presidential nominee to support all those instances, that's pretty darn liberal anyway you look at it. LOL!
Hmmm... interesting I stand corrected.

However, with Obama's reform rhetoric, that could be iffy. He did start the Transparency of Government movement, where Senators have to have posted on their website what they're doing and how they are spending our tax dollars. That is a real step forward, so his rhetoric is upheld there. But that incident when he proposed tighter restrictions on nuclear power plants to disclose how, where, and how much waste they are getting rid of, but then after a while he diluted it and made it more lenient and favorable for the nuclear power plants after meeting with them. That kind of behavior is exactly what he is supposed be combating. When he began his presidential bid and through half of February, I was so pumped that finally the Democrats would have a perfect candidate. I was one of the biggest Obama supporters there were, but then I started learning things about him that just crushed me, I felt extremely let down. He is, however, a far better candidate than Clinton and heads and tails better than McCain.

You do realize, that like with any other bill that is presented in Congress, that what was originally aimed for does get changed to accomadate ALL those who are supporting said bill? That as others say 'well, I don't agree with this/that/the other portion, but if we change this to that and that to the other I'll vote yes' that bills are changed through agreed comprimise?

Also, it wasn't JUST Obama who worked on the original recommendation...Senator Coburn from Oklahoma also was part of it's creation. And they had to have it passed through both the House of Represenatives and Senate, which means that both groups made changes to the original bill presented to them, in order for it to pass through those steps...

In otherwords, Obama didn't change it...Those voting on it did the changes in order for it to pass by a majority vote...So to put the responsibility fully on Obama's shoulders is a mistake as the responsibility was shared by 98 House Represenatives and 100 Senate members...And all 198 had their own thoughts as to what should/shouldn't be addressed and so they worked together on it to make it acceptable for the majority of those 198 voting on passing it...

Kind of like the Relief Package incident that was just put through Congress...The original package isn't the one that got passed...Because when the House members then the Senate members got a look at what was being put on the table, they made changes to that package in order for it to be passed by majority vote...AGAINST the wishes of Bush and his team that created it...

Same thing happens (and happened) in regards to Coburn-Obama transparency proposal. Those voting on it changed portions of it, against the wishes of those that made it, in order for it to get a majority vote of approval...

Otherwise, it wouldn't have been passed at all the way it was originally written up then you'd be gripping that Obama created a bill that was a dud and waste of tax payer's dollars cause it didn't make it off the floor of the House of Represenatives or the Senate if it had made it to that stage...

Not to mention, Bush would have also been able to veto it, meaning it would be changed even more, IF the House and Senate hadn't made the changes that would satisfy Bush's approval either.

60% of the bills/proposals put forward to the House never leave the house...Out of those that make it out and go to the Senate, only 20% of those will be passed to the President with the Senate's approval...And even then the President sends half those back to the floor to be changed further or straight out vetoed.

Basically, only 1 out of 3 bills/proposals going through that process actually get accepted...And not one of them are accepted as the original piece they were first presented to in the House as...Every last one of them are and will be changed to appeal to the majority votes.

Here's the actual bill you are talking about that was passed...

Government Transparency

State, Federal and Local Efforts to Increase Transparency in Government Spending
(Please note: this list will be updated as we receive more information)

Introduction

In 2006, thanks to the leadership of Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK), and Barack Obama D (IL), Congress passed and President Bush signed into law the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act (S.2590) which passed House and Senate in September of 2006. Search Results - THOMAS (Library of Congress) :

The bill creates a free, publicly searchable website for all federal contracts and grants. It requires access to data on all payments of more than $25,000, with exceptions for classified information and federal assistance payments made to individuals. Also excluded are federal employees.

The website Welcome to USAspending.gov went live on December 13, 2007. It can also be accessed at Welcome to USAspending.gov . The website includes several additional features that were not required by law. For example, users can review the level of competition for each contract, as well as submit feedback on a wiki page.

With this first iteration of Welcome to USAspending.gov online, ATR has sent a letter to members of congress urging them to build on this accomplishment and take spending transparency to the next level. Click here for the letter.

The federal effort inspired elected officials at the state level to work to empower taxpayers to become fiscal watchdogs by making expenditures available on the Internet.

Kansas became the first state in 2007 to sign into law comprehensive legislation mandating the creation of a website detailing state expenditure information.

Minnesota quickly followed and Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) signed legislation at the beginning of May. Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry (D) signed legislation on June 5, and Gov. Rick Perry (R) of Texas signed transparency legislation into law on June 15. Hawaii passed similar legislation in 2007, which became law without the governor's signature.

On July 11, 2007 Gov. Matt Blunt (R) of Missouri became created a comprehensive searchable web portal detailing government expenditures via Executive Order. Gov. Mark Sanford (R) of South Carolina issued an executive order to this effect on August 30.
You'll also see the states listed that still have yet to have this bill pass at the state level. As well as the states that have not only passed it at the state level, but have went above and beyond what the federal bill was asking for...And the states that have also passed it but with fewer requirements then what was passed federally that was put before them to vote on.

Even though it's a federal bill, the states themselves can and will also make individual changes to reflect that state's own desired information that would be made available to their voting populance...They can remove or add requirements from that original federally passed bill.

As with when it was changed at the Federal level and Coburn-Obama aren't responsible for that, neither are they responsible when the states each individually decide to make changes to that bill to have it utilized in that individual state. Because those voting on it on the state level are the ones held responsible for not adherring or changing what was originally put forth.

And here's the real rift of that bill...It's actually purely voluntery on the state's part of whether or not to adopt it's policies. It's only a guideline for those states and they are completely free to disregard or change it to suit their state's needs or desires accordingly...

Of course, the states that decide not to follow it as well as those in charge not making their states follow it, will suffer for not adopting some of those guidelines...Because when voting time comes around, the voters who want that disclosure will vote accordingly for those canidates that did vote for the bill and voted to go above and beyond just what the minimal guidelines that were presented to the states...

With Bill Richardson in his corner, I'm sure the experience argument can easily be defeated. And once the nomination process is complete, Obama will garner the support from the Clinton superdelegates and have one of the most competent teams to ever run the White House.

You know there is still a general election to go, right?...

But will Obama ever get to the White House? Recent polls now show McCain beating both Obama and Hillary! The battle between Obama and Clinton appears to be wearing people down and the Wright scandal is hurting Obama.Granted,it's a long time before November but the 527's have not even started their end game.

I'm not concerned about beating McCain. I KNOW that it can be done. But we cannot concern ourselves with the general election when we still have to get Clinton out of the primary. Our message has to be split. One focusing on today, the next primary, and the other focusing on day one of the new administration. Let McCain languish out there in the media void. Don't give him any more press.

Like I said in my response to Redd, I'm not overly concerned about beating McCain in the general. Polls in March are meaningless come November.

Of course, anything is possible but the continued battle between Obama and Hillary is good for..you guessed it...John McCain. I fear that McCain is not languishing in the media void but recharging his batteries and strategy.Napoleon once said, don't get in the way of your enemy when you see them headed for a cliff and if necessary, give them a little push"..

That's true as I noted but polls can be used as an indication of health within a candidates campaign. I believe that McCain will also have a difficult time in the generals. I believe his temper will flare and his weakness on the economy along with missteps could eventually destroy his campaighn..time will tell.
