Default Is Family Guy Offensive?

Strangely, Family Guy strikes me as the funniest show currently on television. The humor just makes me laugh out loud.

The show is notorious for being offensive and always on the FCC's radar and offending some people.

So the question is, do you personally feel it sometimes crosses the line?

In my opinion, no. They spread their humor at all races, genders, religions and many other areas. They are an equal opportunity basher. And besides, I always believe humor is defined by sometimes drawing a line and deliberately crossing. Someone famous once said that and I believe it.

Here are some examples that have been controversial. Hysterical, but offensive to some.

WARNING - May be offensive to some

Here is one that upset many people, especially Ssrah Palin.

Chris (the son) falls in love with a girl with Down Syndrome. He goes on a date with her. This is the scene with him preparing for it and later on when they take a jab at Palin.

I don't think it crosses the line because it goes after everything and everyone, but I can imagine why it might cross that line for others. I love Family Guy.

I'm a South Park fan myself.

I find Family Guy kinda tame. It's just this angry liberal writer trying to hard to do what Matt and Trey do effortlessly, and no Family Guy doesn't go after "everybody" they go after angry liberal guy targets, and throw in the odd not really offensive token lib target so they can pretend their non-partisan. Show me something like the Hilary Clinton snukes episode of South Park if you want to impress. Or that Oprah Winfrey Towlie SP ep. That was gross, but that was going after everybody. Has Family Guy had the balls to go after Mohamed yet? Other than on South Park, I mean.

Matt and Trey go after everybody. South Park is what Family Guy would like to pretend it is.

Sorry to sidetrack just for this one post, but I figure since the above are considered to be offensive, I will put this one in.

I promise in future I will not hijack your thread!!!

South Park got old for me FAST. The main characters are irritating with irritating voices, they're irritating in the way usually only real hyperactive kids can get on your nerves--the show is a constant ninging ninging ninging, and continual potty humor left and right. Sure, they rank on a lot of things, but THE WAY something gets ranked on makes all the difference in the world. I like the style of Family Guy, I *don't* like the style of South Park.

I don't think I've ever actually laughed at South Park, maybe a grin or a groan, but I don't think I've ever actually laughed out loud at it. Granted, I don't laugh out loud very often at entertainment, I usually laugh at things and situations with friends and such--but sometimes Family Guy actually gets me laughing.

Whilst I voted that Family Guy was offensive, it isn't to me but I well understand how it could be to come. Are You Being Served was from the 70s and there was a strict standard to not offend generally with various shows but they did it right. However there was a comedy show called Love Thy Neighbour here in the UK in the early 70s which certainly would be considered offensive nowadays due to political correctness. However then no-one thought twice about it.

Have you ever seen clips of Morcambe and Wise? (Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise). There are some here:

And also the Two Ronnies. (Ronnie Corbett and Ronnie Barker). There are some here:
