Thanks, but my life is not at all sad. I am not some pathetic, lonely isolater or hater. I am fulfilled--even without an immediate family (my SO died years ago). I work with children who have cancer and various blood disorders and wouldn't change that for the world! I have many, many friends within the community organization of my choice, and I live in a neighborhood where the neighbors actually know and help each other. I have a VERY good life.

Some of the happiest people I know are unmarried and childless.
These also seem to me to be the folks most likely to leave some sort of lasting legacy after they're gone from this world: without an immediate family to squander all their energy and resources on, they often make meaningful positive contributions to their communities and beyond.

Thanks! Don't know if I'll live up to all that, but I do know that my independence affords me the time to get out and do some things that I otherwise probably would not. I like my life.
