Democratic Rep. Rangel calls Palin 'disabled'

Quote:
Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., already in trouble for tax problems, called Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin "disabled" on Friday, and then quickly retreated and said he misspoke saying he meant "disadvantaged."

Republicans called it a new low for the 78-year-old chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.

Asked during an interview with New York's WCBS-2 television why Democrats seem afraid of Palin's popularity, Rangel replied: "You got to be kind to the disabled."

The reporter repeated the phrase.

"Yes," replied Rangel and then added, "There's no question about it.
Politically it's a nightmare to think that a person's foreign policy is based on their ability to look at Russia from where they live."

Soon after the interview aired, Rangel in a statement said that he meant to say "disadvantaged."

"Governor Palin is an obviously healthy person who in no way fits the description of disabled. I meant to say then, and I am saying now, that she entered the campaign with a disadvantage in the area of foreign policy," said Rangel.
You know that can't be a legitimate excuse...Look at his answer again...

"You got to be kind to the disabled" is a statement...No one in their right mind would ever say "you've got to be kind to people who are disadvantaged in the area of foreign policy"...

Coming from someone with a "disadvantge" in both grammer and paying taxes...

Charlie Rangel is often right on the mark whether he admits it or not.
Many are worried about Palin's lack of experience.

And I will add "moxie" that goes along with success in the field she has chosen.

Even more than we're worried about Sen. Obama's even more critical lack of experience?? You can pad the jr. Senator from Illinios' resume all you want, but the fact is that he's woefully inexperienced for the position.

He has sponsored bills, one to prevent companies from hiding the fact they have a hazardous waste leak.
He is a savvy world traveler. He is a Harvard graduate. (You know his grades-I don't have to rub that one in).
She...
Seems like a nice lady?

Like the fact he didn't visit Iraq until his political opponent pushed him to...

No. Like he has lived in a wide variety of places since he was born and seen the variety of peoples and cultures.

I was answring a post where faithfulf did the comparison.
But further-I think there is no real comparison. I'm not saying she is a bad person. She seems really nice. I just don't think anyone who grew up soley in Alaska and went to college in Idaho is all that clear headed about the country's various strengths and problems.

Thank you for your elitism...

I, personally, would take a salt-of-the-earth person over the arugula eatin', Greek Temple portrayin' out of touch guy with the executive experience of Rocky Balboa...

Of course, he'll be asking advice from the former executives of Fannie Mae to help "educate" him...

We already know they're "experts" at scheming the government for millions...

Salt of the earth as in Will Rogers. He was from the farm country but it was the heart of the country And he served in Washington too. Salt of the earth as in T. Boon Pickens who knows a thing or two about a thing or two.

It is not elitism to see (and I live in Idaho and love the people) that her's has been shall w say a sheltered life?

And I don't think that anyone who cut their teeth in one of the most politically corrupt parts of the country and is an elitist snob has a clue about this country. He's been sequestered in his collegiate ivory tower, stepping out to do a little bit of "community organization" once in a while and has ran a college newspaper. He's sponsored a few minor league bills that anyone with two connected braincells would support. Outside of his opinion on homosexual mariage, he's never once taken any stand that was counter to the official Democratic party line. He has no foreign political experience. He has very little leadership experience. He is a pure party controlled politician. He is the very pictureof the Democratic Party Establishment. His running mate is the picture of the old school politics that got us into the morass of politcal decadence that we are currently in. He runs a campaign based on the idea of change, yet he is completely involved in the business as usual style of gov't.
