Sliming Palin

Quote:
We’ve been flooded for the past few days with queries about dubious Internet postings and mass e-mail messages making claims about McCain’s running mate, Gov. Palin. We find that many are completely false, or misleading.

* Palin did not cut funding for special needs education in Alaska by 62 percent. She didn’t cut it at all. In fact, she tripled per-pupil funding over just three years.

* She did not demand that books be banned from the Wasilla library. Some of the books on a widely circulated list were not even in print at the time. The librarian has said Palin asked a "What if?" question, but the librarian continued in her job through most of Palin's first term.

* She was never a member of the Alaskan Independence Party, a group that wants Alaskans to vote on whether they wish to secede from the United States. She’s been registered as a Republican since May 1982.

* Palin never endorsed or supported Pat Buchanan for president. She once wore a Buchanan button as a "courtesty" when he visited Wasilla, but shortly afterward she was appointed to co-chair of the campaign of Steve Forbes in the state.

* Palin has not pushed for teaching creationism in Alaska's schools. She has said that students should be allowed to "debate both sides" of the evolution question, but she also said creationism "doesn't have to be part of the curriculum."

A few of these claims were included in a chain e-mail by a woman named Anne Kilkenny. We'll be looking into other charges in that e-mail for a future story. For more explanation of the bullet points above, please read the Analysis.

I read the real letter the other day on snopes. they have updated their Sarah Palin email facts to include more emails from different writers.

Here is Anne Kilkenny's letter in its entirety. A Note to All by Anne Kilkenny It was sent to her own email list of friends and family, then picked up by the email snow ball chain and perhaps it is now like the old game where you whisper something in your school mate's ear and by the end of the day the whole story has changed.
She makes some good and some not so good observations about Sarah Palin as a politician and a person.

And there's the problem...

People will believe things said about Palin are real based on NOTHING MORE than "different writers" and a local Alaskan's "observations"...

There are people that actually think "Anne Kilkenny is an Alaskan...Anne Kilkenny knows Sarah...

Therefore, my conclusion is that everything Anne Kilkenny says is gospel and MUST be fact instead of her personal opinion."...

If you read the snopes I posted in another thread you will see they did track her down. She is a real person. She does live in Wasilla, etc.

And what she writes is HER OPINION...

I'm not denying she's real...

I'm just flabbergasted that people believe what she's saying based on nothing more than she happens to be someone that knows Sarah Palin...

The swiftboaters knew John Kerry, too, ya know...

The thing is we don't know a lot about Sarah Palin except what she and the media portray.
I am not repeating trash that they put on some websites like she's a terrorist, she's having an affair, she's covering for her daughter. I think those things are stupid and unworthy of my time.
The story was picked up because we know little or nothing about her. Other emails are posted on the one site that state whether or not the source was tracked down. Some of them are quite glowing. This lady is not a scandaliser, she's very even handed.
I'm an Independent voter as you know, and I respect both teams running at present because they look on the surface like they represent their party's ideology. If she is a real Republican, I will vote for her and John McCain. But lets face it, we've had a belly full of self interested money wasters and if she is of the same old ilk, I don't want her near my white house.
Right now to be perfectly honest, Obama and Biden are sounding more intelligent and informed and really speak to the issues. And the pundits can say whatever they may about Obama, but he is looking more experienced as far as his thought process than Sarah. And I have to consider Sarah because of McCain's age. I've thought it over and yes she sounded like a breath of fresh air, but I was fooled by that once. I'm more cautious this time.

With these "facts" being published as undisputed truth, more and more people are starting to believe anything these days. Loco times in politics.

Palin's going through the same thing Obama should've gone though...The public learning just who the heck they are...

Remember, Obama's had 19 months to clear his record on stupid rumors and lies...Palin's going to have less than 70 days...

And unlike clearing Obama's "good name", the media won't be any help to Palin...In fact, as we've see through Gibson's interview, they'll be going out of their way to make sure the record stays blurred...

Here's the transcript of the FULL Gibson interview...You can see how certain VERY IMPORTANT things were left out to make Palin out to be something she isn't...

What do you mean should have gone through? 24/7 repeats of a few seconds of Obama's preacher's sermon taken totally out of context on Fox...
Or don't you recall?
