BIG DILEMMA: OPRAH BALKS AT HOSTING SARAH PALIN; STAFF DIVIDED

DRUDGE REPORT FLASH 2005®

Oprah had never come out to endorse a candidate before Obama.

So why did she endorse him?

Because she was moved by his presentation and his narrative. However, if she had looked closely at his record of accomplishment and the history of his associations she might have waited, I think.

So, why didn't she look closely at his record? Because she and the rest of the country, was led to believe everything on his website was true and complete. And she, along with the rest of us, just assumed that no one could possibly get this far on the political path to the presidency without someone having vetted this man thoroughly.

And from the looks of it, Obama's people have been deceptive and/or not completely forthcoming about his past.

But even if everything about his record was open and honest and without question, which it is not, why would Oprah change her policy about political endorsements for Obama?

I think race has a great deal to do with it. But let's put that aside in lieu of discussing a disturbing trend.

It seems the ability to manufacture artificial bona fides and the audacity of some to use them without compunction in pursuit of undeserved gain has overtaken our defenses.

Oprah says she was duped

Saying she had been embarrassed by the controversy surrounding a book she had recently defended, talk show host Oprah Winfrey invited the author, James Frey, back to her studio on Thursday to explain himself to her television audience.

A firestorm erupted earlier this month when the Web site "The Smoking Gun" accused Frey of embellishing and fabricating parts of his best-selling book "A Million Little Pieces." Oprah had chosen Frey's book -- which had been marketed as a memoir -- for her wildly popular monthly book club.

"I feel duped," Winfrey said during a live episode of "The Oprah Winfrey Show," which originates in Chicago. "But more importantly, I feel that you betrayed millions of readers."

Her confrontation of Frey comes two weeks after she called another TV show, "Larry King Live," to defend Frey after the Web site allegations surfaced. She asked him Thursday if he agreed with her feeling that he had conned those who bought his book.

"I don't feel like I conned you guys," Frey replied.

"A Million Little Pieces" claims to recount Frey's turbulent path from alcoholism and drug addiction to sobriety.

And maybe that is how Oprah was duped. And we should know that Oprah has to be especially on her toes to prevent being used, so anyone who is able to get past her must be very good at the art of deception. A master duper. A super duper! This super duper thought he was being straight with her but he was actually lying.

"I don't feel like I conned you guys," Frey replied.

Isn't that how pathological liars' minds work?

And when so many people with so much at stake, (like Oprah who has put her own reputation on the line for Obama) have come out for him on the basis of what he "...stands for, what he has proven that he can stand for..." but very little substantive merit, you have a situation where these people feel a desperate need for vindication...to be proven correct.

Oprah says, "he has shown is worth me going out on a limb for."

But was he?

He wasn't.

If he was trying to become a more popular Senator or a professional motivational speaker or a TV show host or to plug his book sales, all of which Oprah is unquestionably qualified to pass judgment on and endorse, that would be one thing. But as someone trying to become the President of the United States Oprah's endorsement conferred upon him a seal of quality she wasn't qualified to give.

She made her decision to endorse Obama emotionally and based on insufficient evidence. He is a master manipulator and with a paucity of credentials but a wealth of nuance he has gotten this far and now that she as well as other supporters have 'gone out on a limb' for him they are not interested in being fair and objective or impartial. They want to cover their asses.

Oprah's decision not to host Sarah Palin on her show is a testament to the poor decision Oprah made in endorsing Obama and to the desperate level of need she feels to be proven correct.

I suppose you have to look at the color of Oprah's and Obama's skin. Would she endorse Jesse Jackson if he ran for president?

No, she did not endorse Jackson's 1988 run.

She has never endorsed anyone.

Until now.

But I do think there is a racial motive behind her endorsement.

Oh man. That's a first. I guess religion notwithstanding, she sort of looks to Obama as some sort of deity.

I'd be depressed if I were Oprah...

She just lost the the title of "Most popular woman in America"...

She just doesn't want to hand over the crown...

To whom did she lose it?

Does anyone here watch Oprah? I can't stand the arrogant blow hard. I don't care who is on her show. I wouldn't watch if I were you guys. Try some different shows. I'm sure Sarah will be on FOX.

I don't watch her. I'd rather listen to Rush Limbaugh or watch Perry Mason on cbs.com than watch Winfrey. Of course, if I ever get on one of her shows, I might get lucky and drive away with a new car.

Is this what might be called a strawman denial?

Quote:
"The item in today's Drudge Report is categorically untrue. There has been absolutely no discussion about having Sarah Palin on my show. At the beginning of this Presidential campaign when I decided that I was going to take my first public stance in support of a candidate, I made the decision not to use my show as a platform for any of the candidates. I agree that Sarah Palin would be a fantastic interview, and I would love to have her on after the campaign is over."
Oprah, the point is that you will not have Palin on your show before the election. Not that you won't EVER have her on.
