GOP Convention Spin

Quote:
September 3, 2008

Lieberman and Thompson make misleading claims about Obama on Day Two of the party in St. Paul.

Summary

Joe Lieberman and his former Senate colleague Fred Thompson both made misleading claims about Obama in their prime time GOP convention speeches on Tuesday. We've heard two of them before – many times.

Lieberman said Obama hadn't "reached across party lines" to accomplish "anything significant," though Obama has teamed with GOP Sens. Tom Coburn and Richard Lugar to pass laws enhancing government transparency and curtailing the proliferation of nuclear and conventional weapons.

Thompson repeated misleading claims about Obama's tax program, saying it would bring "one of the largest tax increases in American history." But as increases go, Obama's package is hardly a history-maker. It would raise taxes for families with incomes above $250,000. Most people would see a cut.

Lieberman also accused Obama of "voting to cut off funding for our American troops on the battlefield." But Obama's only vote against a war-funding bill came after Bush vetoed a version of the bill Obama had supported – and McCain urged the veto.

The spin machines will now go into overdrive as both conventions come to a close.

Still looking for that new kind of campaign that McCain promised. Where you didn't just attack your opponent.

I was thinking of the respect the left gave to McCain at their convention. And the respect the right has shown Obama at theirs. Same game plan as usual from the right. Divide people. Use fear. Belittle folks. And then hide behind some kind of values. The values that say it is alright to lie and use half truths to win. They use fear. People at that convention kept saying John will keep us safe. They have no idea if Obama or McCain have the better plan. But because McCain was a prisoner of war they think he has an advantage. I am not a Senator. But I know most of what is happening in the world that pertains to us. Its if you have intelligent strategies to deal with them. There is every indication that Obama is in a superior position to effect world political issues. But you like bluster. But bluster is old and nobody in Europe or the world wants any more of it. It appeals to people here on the right. But if it doesn't work there what good is it?

so much for accuracy from Obama...

FactCheck.org: FactChecking Obama

...& that's just from his speech.

Amazing that factcheck has yet to check the facts of all the other speakers at the DNC.

Factcheck is usually reliable factwise, but here they flubbed...

Quote:

The keywords here are "anything significant"....

That is always a matter of OPINION...not FACT...

What one person deems significant, another might determine totally INsignificant...

Specifics...

Obama teamed with Coburn to pass a bill to show where monetary earmarks go...

BIG F*IN' WHOOP!!!!...Gas prices are sky-high, there's corruption on both sides of the aisle, and the Obama/Coburn bill does NOTHING except tell the public how they're getting raped by Congress...One would THINK he might propose a bill on how to STOP the public getting raped, but that would be something "significant"...and Obama wouldn't have any parts of that...

Second, according to the Lamb of Chicago's own website...

Quote:
Authored by U.S. Sens. Dick Lugar (R-IN) and Barack Obama (D-IL), the Lugar-Obama initiative expands U.S. cooperation to destroy conventional weapons. It also expands the State Department's ability to detect and interdict weapons and materials of mass destruction.
Detecting doesn't do crap...

RESPONDING to those found out to have "weapons and materials of mass destruction" is what's important, and all we've heard from Obama is that he's willing to have tea and crimpets with their leaders...

Cnredd, I know how you love to spin things, so here you go...

Quote:
American Heritage Dictionary - Cite This Source - Share This
in·ter·dict Audio Help (ĭn'tər-dĭkt') Pronunciation Key
tr.v. in·ter·dict·ed, in·ter·dict·ing, in·ter·dicts

1. To prohibit or place under an ecclesiastical or legal sanction.
2. To forbid or debar, especially authoritatively. See Synonyms at forbid.
3.
1. To cut or destroy (a line of communication) by firepower so as to halt an enemy's advance.
2. To confront and halt the activities, advance, or entry of: "the role of the FBI in interdicting spies attempting to pass US secrets to the Soviet Union" (Christian Science Monitor).
What part of this word indicates having tea? This word equates authoritative action. Essentially the destroy of the "seek and destroy" portion of the bill.

And don't be a dip about the Obama/Cogburn bill. You and I both know (when we decide to actually think instead of rant) that it takes more than one shot to correct the issues in Washington. You and I both know that the public being made aware of those who have high earmarks is the ONLY way to garner the political support to end the outrageous earmark system. Therefore, it was significant legislation as it was required before the process could move forward. Without it, the earmarks could remain in the cloakrooms.

Are you saying no speaker at the DNC spoke an untruth or exaggerated anything they said against McCain?

Is that the claim you're making?

Why would factcheck point it out for one convention & not the other?

Can you answer that?

Unless you really believe that every word spoken at the DNC was the absolute truth.

No..you are implying that FactCheck is biased not me. Do you really believe that every word spoken at the RNC was the absolute truth? Of all the political sites I visit I find FactCheck to be the most fair and balanced. Are they perfect? perhaps not but they do a great job "trying" to keep them all honest..
