You may have misunderstood my comments. I didn't underpay or overpay on my SS withholdings. I often simply reached the cap by June and they stopped "deducting" from my paycheck.I don't "owe" anybody anything...

No, you said you support removing the cap. You are more than capable of voluntarily removing it ... simply write the government a check.

This all goes back to Warren Buffett syndrome. Plenty of people claim they wouldn't mind giving the government more of their money but in reality, they never do.

Some people like to hear themselves claim to be more altruistic than they really are...

Security mostly. I'd like to see stocks/funds get certified by a independent fed. agency as "safe for SS". Possibly have rating for different investments that allow you to invest a higher % if you use "safe for SS" rated investments.

And I am for means testing. Social Security should work like insurance. If you have an retirement income of lets say $250,000 a year. I don't think you should get a full SS check. I will likely lose mine in that case. But Its OK with me. I am happy with that. I'm not jealous. I want my fellow Americans to do well. And if they can't I don't mind helping if hey really need it. I'll sirvive.
We need to return SSI to it's original intent and end it's entitlement status. That alone would probably fix the problem long enough to carry things until we can work out the bugs on the rest of the plan.

Now wait just a minute...I favor removing the cap and that means I would pay more into it.I also favor the fair tax but that does not mean I am going to start a tax revolution by paying more tax than required when I buy my new lawn tractor.. Your scenario is a bit unfair, one man cannot solve the entire social security problem unless HE IS Warren Buffet...
