Mass. state senator indicted for sexual harassment

BOSTON (AP) -- A Massachusetts grand jury on Tuesday indicted a state senator on charges that he allegedly sexually harassed four women in a single day in Lowell before giving a false identity to police officers and fleeing from the scene.

State Sen. James Marzilli, 50, faces charges of attempting to commit indecent assault and battery, annoying and accosting people of the opposite sex, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone said.

No date has been scheduled for the arraignment of the Democrat from Arlington, but authorities expected Marzilli's court appearance to be scheduled next week, Leone said.

"Sometime next week, in Lowell Superior Court, Jim Marzilli is going to plead not guilty," Marzilli's attorney Terrence Kennedy said.

"We knew the indictments were coming. They told us last week that they intend to seek indictments in these matters," Kennedy said. "We are prepared to defend them."

Prosecutors say on June 3, Marzilli made sexually explicit remarks to four women and attempted to sexually touch one of them.

Marzilli approached the fourth woman outside an apartment, and two people nearby reported the incident to police. Marzilli gave a false name and address to an officer who responded to the scene, prosecutors said.

He was arrested in a parking garage where authorities apprehended him after he ran away, Leone said in a statement.

That sounds like the actions of an innocent man: Lie to the police and then run away.

It's got nothing to do with Kennedy and everything to do with the tendency of Dems. to RE-elect criminals (ala William "Cold Cash" Jefferson). It seems like in Mass., the standard for a Senate position is that you have committed a crime and gotten away with it. This guy will most probably walk away scot-free and the people of Mass. will idolize him for it. They've done it before on multiple occassions and my guess is that they'll do it again.

It's almost to a point where it's mandatory to elect a criminal...

Here's the latest - He grabbed a woman in the crotch because he's bi-polar...
LOWELL, Mass. (AP) -- A Massachusetts state senator accused of sexually harassing four women in one day has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, an attorney said Wednesday.

Sen. James Marzilli pleaded not guilty to attempting to commit indecent assault and battery, annoying and accosting people of the opposite sex, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

After the brief hearing, attorney Terrence Kennedy said his client has been diagnosed with the mental condition that can cause severe mood swings. He did not say when the state senator had received the diagnosis, whether he remained under psychiatric care or if he was on medication.

Marzilli issued a statement on June 5 saying he had decided to receive treatment at McLean Hospital, a psychiatric facility in Belmont. That came two days after he was arrested after a police footchase through downtown Lowell.

He initially was accused of making lewd comments to one woman and trying to grab another in the crotch. Investigators later spoke with two other women who claimed Marzilli made similar comments to them that day.
