a NON-REPUBLICAN!!!!...
I see nothing in the follow-on which shows how this "rumor" was STARTED by this guy...

In fact, the opposite of your "started by a non-republican" is true from his statement...
I learned over the weekend why the Republicans who have seen the tape of Michelle Obama ranting about “whitey” describe it as “STUNNING.”
....
Let’s just say that one of the republican [sic] candidates who is no longer in the race, but had a dandy oppo research capability, uncovered this gem.
How does that mean Larry STARTED it???

"listening to WHAT stories"???
I have been talking about how Rush is COMPLETELY IRRESPONSIBLE for repeating a RUMOR.
That is NOT something journalists do.

I never even hinted at where the rumor got started.

Post Re: Obama's new anti smear site

Cutting through the b.s. spin that has been spewed on this thread, my opinion ON THE TOPIC is this.

The web-site is a good one.
I have started getting at least one spam e-mail a week from acquaintances who think I should realize that Barack said he would stand by Muslims (lie) or that Barack did X (another lie) or that Barack said Y (...).

It is morally repugnant how people are running around and acting.
ONE group of people is actively making up lies. And I don't care if they are Democrat Hillary supporters or Republican. It's morally repugnant.

Another group is actively running around REPEATING the lie. And I guess some take solace in the fact that they are just repeating a "rumor" which at its base is nothing less than a lie, but I just can't see any significant difference.

The candidates evidently don't have to go on a negative attack anymore, because the "grass roots" groups will do it for them and the candidate can reap the benefits. McCain has suffered it in the past with the "black baby" b.s., and now people who will vote for him are doing the dirty work for him.

Just my take.
I'll return you now to people who will try to completely misrepresent what I said to try and malign some political tactical advantage...

What?!?!?!?!

If I started a rumor and said "Sources close to foundit66 told me he wears mesh tanktops.", you'd actually believe the SOURCES which may or may not even be existant and not question ME?!?!?...

That's unbelievable...JOHNSON is the one making the accusation...and you saying the Republicans started it means that you BELIEVE HIM...with no evidence whatsoever...

Here's an article from Johnson' own website that specifically states it...

Thread #2 : “I Now Believe the Tape Exists” by Bud White

Quote:
This is the second thread for Bud White’s key story, ““I Now Believe the Tape Exists.” [Reprinted in full below the fold.] FIRST PARAGRAPH:

Roger Stone, respected, hated, and always controversial Republican political knife fighter and commentator for Fox News, has given new credence to Larry Johnson’s reporting of a video of Michelle Obama making racist comments against whites.

Is Roger Stone to be believed?

Obamabots, bewildered by their devastating streak of losses but hopeful of the delegate stealing yesterday, will no doubt label any reporting by Stone as more “Faux News.”
He also calimed to be the guy with NEW information on the tape...but never delivered...

BREAKING NEWS: Michelle’s Whitey Problem

Quote:
New and dramatic developments. This is a heads up. I’ll post the news Monday morning by 0900 hours. Now I know why people who have seen the videotape say it is stunning. Barack’s headaches are only starting.
Your choices are "Believe Johnson that the Republicans are behind this"...or "Believe Johnson is a shill for Hillary with not a shred of credibility."...

Do some googling and you'll see that the former is not an option...

I'll start you off...

Conservative blogger Michalle Malkin...

Quote:
Many readers are wondering why I have not written a single word about the rumored Michelle Obama “whitey” video.

Simple: Larry Johnson, the main source of the rumors, is not, not, not to be trusted.

Moreover: The story keeps changing.

First, the rumor-mongers claimed, Obama appeared on tape with Louis Farrakhan. Now, the rumor is that the tape comes from this event where she appeared with Mrs. Farrakhan at a Rainbow/PUSH conference in 2004

First, the rumor-mongers claimed, she said “whitey” on the tape. Now, the rumor is that she’s saying “why’d he” (referring to George Bush).

First, the rumor-mongers claimed, the “bombshell” would be released on Monday. Then it was yesterday. Now, it’s tomorrow.

So, where’s the stupid tape?

All sorts of buffoons are hyping the story, the effect of which will be to undermine all legitimate criticism of Michelle Obama.

To all of you who keep bugging me about this subject, please stop sending me e-mail. Until and unless anyone actually produces a video, I’m not going to mention it again.
Here's another from Conservative blogger Ace of Spades...

Claim: Videotapes of Michelle Obama Railing Against "Whitey" Unearthed

Quote:
This is Larry Johnson talking, who's not only a Hillary zealot but is generally unreliable. "21 indictments" against Karl Rove and all that.

File it under "doubtful." I remember all the Magic Bullet scandals that were claimed to be just about to break and take down Clinton. As a rule, rumors about such stuff are just flat-out false. If someone has such a tape, they release it. No one keeps secrets like that.
Let's take another one...from the conservative blog Riehl's Worls View...

Where Da "Whitey" Woman Tape At?

Quote:
As for the"whitey" episode, there is already a competing narrative developing among Obama supporters. So far, the only consistency from all the libs is this is a Republican hit. What a joke. The R's would hold this to October and, frankly, I think they'd rather face the Oba-messiah, than Hillary, at this point. No way they'd knock Obi off now given the water he has been taking on for weeks. He's damaged goods and I imagine there's plenty more to mine from his past for the general election.

I'm withholding judgment on the entire affair until I see a tape. So far, this could simply be a Johnson / Clinton Camp attempt to smear Obama with a tape that doesn't back up the charges, or doesn't even exist.
You can proceed at your own choosing...

Since when has Rush considered himself a journalist?...Since when did anybody?...

And then you come along with your obfuscation to pretend otherwise...
For your last statement, maybe you should look in the mirror...
I think my above links to Johnson himself should clarify...

1) I was only trying to emphasize that Larry saying a Republican told me doesn't mean that it was Larry who started the rumor.
2) With that said, I think the REST of what you just posted (and all the research you did) gives a good conclusion that it probably WAS Larry who started the rumor.
Logical conclusion, with no evidence I see to the contrary. (including evidence that could have come from Larry)

Perhaps he doesn't.
However, that doesn't mean people don't get their "news" from him, and he should hold himself responsible for that and not just use his position as a means to bash politically.
And that goes for Democrat or Republican.

I think it's a slippery slope to just discount some standards (or dare I say "morals") which are actually good ideals to live by just because you didn't adopt the title that holds a person "automatically" to those ideals.

Otherwise, we're opening the door for the likes of Clinton's "I don't consider oral sex as sex" morality...

Ummm...

Where is the lie?...Of course, there isn't any...It specifically says that Rush HEARD A RUMOR...

He did NOT say the tape exists...Just that he HEARD a tape exists...

Now if he told people that a tape DID exist, then there'd be a lie (or that Rush's sources are liars and he perpetuated the lie)...

But that's not what happened, making the term "Lie:" at the top the actual lie...

Yeah, let's not "kill the messenger"....let's ship his druggie behind back to rehab, under guard, and find somebody with less of an ax to grind, to replace him...Feminazis my posterior. Ditto heads. The guy has more than a few screws loose. Yet, Bluford and Maybelle still listen to him, and feed on his fodder.
