MORE DAMAGE!!!
[indent]Hurricane Katrina caused at least $125 billion in economic damage and could cost the insurance industry up to $60 billion in claims, a leading risk assessment firm said in updated estimates Friday.
That is for Katrina in it's entirity, that includes me and I don't live in NOLA.
....
The amount and the area of damage going on in the mid-west is FAR and away more than what happened in NOLA and guess what.........it is the state and the local officials who are heading the resecue and recovery AS THEY ALWAYS DO.

"The government was accused of making things worse, instead of making things better, by preventing help by others while delaying its own response. In accordance with federal law, President George W. Bush directed the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Michael Chertoff, to coordinate the Federal response. Chertoff designated Michael D. Brown, head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency,"

Yes which was new, since 9/11 and probably a mistake the government made in putting such domestic natural disasters under homeland security.

And yes like in most such disasters we don't let everybody and their uncle come rushing in only to get themselves in a situation of having to be resuced and supported. The Red Cross is the first to say it, as they were this morning on the news, send them money and they will get the things that are needed and get them where they are needed as best can be done, don't send trucks filled with 'stuff' that then has inventoried and stored and managged and dispearsed.

I know first hand groups that wanted to rush in with clothing and food and medical supplies, but there was no where to put them, no way to catalog them no way to get the people to them until the rescue and recovery were over and the state and local officials had set up the means to accept warehouse and dispearse the supplies.

Quote:
Brownie had a job to do in coordinating the EXTERNAL help to get IN to New Orleans to provide assistance.
Instead, he BLOCKED it.
It is his job to make it available to the local rescue and recovery, until they could accept the supplies, which FEMA already had, it was his job to make sure thousands of people rushed in unprepared only to make matters worse.

When you get this dishonest, it's amazing anybody will talk to you...
My FULL quote, before you chopped it up into pieces, was to show NEW ORLEANS damage for ONE issue, as compared to the WHOLE price-tag for Katrina.
There were TWO sentences in that article that were important, and you quoted ONLY the first one and IGNORED the second one which talked about ONLY New Orleans, and ONLY one aspect of damage to New Orleans.

You also ignored the rest where I EXPLICITLY pointed out ONLY New Orleans damage.
And the above response, achieved after you ignore what I ACTUALLY said, is the best you got?

That's pathetic!

Damage spread out over how much area?
What's the death toll for the entire mid-west?
What's the death toll for any INDIVIDUAL CITY in the mid-west?

Your actions are so transparent it isn't even funny.
Obfuscation at its worst.

Mindless obfuscation.
Brownie had a job to do.
Instead, he GOT IN THE WAY of people trying to help.

To avoid this, you fixate on something else...

Give ANY sort of proof that is what would have happened if Brown had let the other helpers come in to help with Katrina.
The really stupid part is that he prevented these people from helping ANYWHERE.
Not just "New Orleans", but ANYWHERE.

Over and over again, I marvel at how you argue this issue with obfuscation and deceit.
And not one shred of evidence...

On the flip side, I have repeatedly documented how FEMA screwed up.
I documented NUMEROUS other people pointing it out.
And you come back with the same mindless excuses, never once substantiating what you claim.

Your faux indignation refutes nothing.

Over and over again, you comment on what you claim is my style instead of refuting the arguments at hand...
