I love "Wicked!!!!!!!!!!"

I've read it four times - and would happily read it four more times!!!!!!

Also, his "Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister" is wonderful.

...and, though Wicked is political, it's not offensively so

and after we read it - we can all meet in NY and see the musical! (which is a very different style than the book - but still delightful)

I saw it several years ago with the original cast on Broadway - it was SO much fun. I just loved it. It's not nearly as dark as the book - but the story is (pretty much) the same. Since then, I've seen it twice on tour, neither production anywhere near as fabulous as the Broadway version. I think you really need a permanent theatre to have that show installed properly. The touring companies just can't do it justice.

I never got to see it but now that I live in Cali, it is on my list of things to go do...get down to LA and see Wicked.

Bkhad, I have gone through the entire thread and I only have this to say: if you would like to discuss these books, offer them as a suggestion and then deal with it if there is no interest.

It is clear to me that all of the participants thus far have asked to discuss literature without putting the restriction of it being polticially motivated literature. On this particular issue, you are outnumbered and out voted. We will keep your suggestions in mind for a time when/if that is the flavor we wish to pursue. However, now is not that time.

To All: I have a suggestion. Let's all make a list of books we would like to read or share/discuss with everyone and then we can select one from the completed list. We'll take suggestions until 8:00AM Eastern tomorrow morning and then select a book by Friday? Then we have the weekend to get a copy and read a bit of it.

Does that sound cool to everyone?

It's the book that was filmed - and caused all the problems for the family of the boy who stars in it, because there is a rape scene in it (the boy is raped). The family has received death threats because of allowing their son to be in the movie.
Thanks, I knew I'd heard the title somewhere. Sounds like a winner to me!
I'll probably read the one SC suggested whenever the library gets it, but this one
would be food for discussion (I think) from many angles.

You're going too far in your disappointment...

Here's what you wrote in the Feedback section...

But no reason to fret about it...

The only thing you should REALLY fret about is capitalizing me name...NEVER!!!!...

But I thought it was about the decadence that was the enlightenment. I later learned it was a satire on communist Russia who I knew little about at the time. Funny how a child's mind works.

What about a compromise? An adventure that is also a true story and gives insight into the history of our relationship with the middle east.
