Bhkad,

Some people DON'T WANT to spend all of our time here discussing islam, world politics etc. (I would be one of them.)

There is a great deal of good in discussing written works of artistic value. No current political works are really going to fall into that category.

Hey, some people haven't wanted to learn about Islam after 9/11. Some people haven't wanted to learn about Islam after the successful invasion. Some people haven't wanted to learn about Islam after the beginning of and the worsening of the insurgency and the calls to withdraw from Iraq. Some people haven't wanted to learn about Islam after the Hezbollah/Israeli War. Some people haven't wanted to learn about Islam after hearing about Iran's headlong drive to get nuclear weapons.

This insures that in times to come these people will continue to remain ill informed and will sue for the wrong solutions and support the people who are taking advantage of our lack of information and their ignorance will make others around them who are also ill informed or ignorant to feel good about themselves.

They figure they are just as ill informed as anyone else so they must be in good company.

How outrageous that a POLITICAL online discussion forum book club should discuss the most urgent issue facing mankind BEFORE it tackles self-help issues. :

Your posts here, are the exact reason WHY the idea of discussing a book about politics is a BAD idea. Because rather then coming from a literary corner, such discussions will always come from a political standpoint and be followed by heated arguments and disagreements. Which is why there are specific forums for discussing such an issue that doesn't intrude on what a literary forum is about.

I think you'd be surprised, how the majority of people on this forum, actually don't fit your little box. The fact that they don't want to discuss a politically motivated book on the subject doesn't say a thing about what they may/may not know about the topic...It simply means that they do not wish to discuss this topic, yet again within another forum.

What is outrageous to myself is the fact that here we are on a POLITICAL online discussion forum, with MANY forums for discussing the issues you find important, yet you are insisting that your political standing MUST be also discussed in the same nature you use in other forums, within the literary forum as well. Without even understanding or accepting that the literary forum wasn't set up to discuss politics, but set up to discuss literary meaning instead.

You can't seem to seperate your politics from just simple reading for enjoyment and pleasure. You instead, are insisting you need yet another outlet to vent your political views on others and have the oppertunity to tear down those you feel 'aren't seeing it YOUR way'...

I'm wondering here, that if someone requested that a food forum be set up, how much would you be screaming when someone pointed out 'sorry, but discssuing/debating personal politics isn't what this forum was designed for'...Cause although one is food and the other is literary, those two forums were intended for discussions OTHER THEN politics.

What's equally outrageous is the fact that we didn't even get a chance to get the horse to the gate, and you shot the horse so to speak. Everything Redd was worried would happen, that we'd assured him wouldn't happen, YOU'VE managed to so with a simple thread about suggesting book titles to start the forum off with.

Good going kiddo. You've managed within a few hours of others asking for a forum to discuss great written works and what they mean to you, into a mud-slinging/insult throwing fest all on your own. Something the rest of us didn't want, cause we all knew that hotheads like yourself would do as you did...Which is rather then discuss a book, you'd be fighting your own little battle to support your own political views and disregarding other's feelings or regards in such matters...

It's sad that there's at least 7 forums designed specifically to address your issues and hold the discussions in...But you'd rather have yet another one, and you're willing to walk over anyone you see as standing in your way or a threat to your personal political views.

If such a thread as this one gets you foaming at the mouth and throwing fighting words, then I'm sure that those threads you've participated in where you said nobody was listening to you and you were having to repeat yourself so much? Seems to me they might have had good reason to put you on ignore. Cause even here, you were unable to keep your temper and discuss this in a rational, non-accusatory/aggressive manner...So the safe bet is you're even more aggressive and accusatory when particpating in the forums specifically designed for such discussions...

It's the book that was filmed - and caused all the problems for the family of the boy who stars in it, because there is a rape scene in it (the boy is raped). The family has received death threats because of allowing their son to be in the movie.

Ok, you can't be for real...People actually are doing that? Ok, where has common sense gone...The movie is a fictional piece...The boy wasn't really raped, they only simulated it to stick to the story...

Geezes, some people.

By the way, what was the movie's title? I might have to look that up as well although I'd rather read the book first then see the movie.

Personally, I was thinking on the line that he was making it personal, rather then just taking it personally...And I know when Redd sees this, he's going to regret putting this forum up and will want to distance himself as far from it as he can...

Breaks my heart, cause this is not what was supposed to happen and the reason we said LITERARY discussions, not politically motivated discussions revolving around political writtings.

I'm so dang disappointed now.

Well, it IS Afghanistan, after all.

Geezes, some people.

Wackjob religious extremists are everywhere.

Same title.

I believe that's pretty much what others are interested in doing as well. It's okay if bkhad wants to do a political book discussion - perhaps he could get one going on the "other" site.

I'm so dang disappointed now.
Don't be. Either he'll take part with the choice of everybody else or not. And, of course, that goes for all of us.

I can't help but feel disappointed though Tristan. We PROMISED Redd that this forum wouldn't turn into this type of posting, which would entail moderating the forum to keep arguments from ballooning out of control.

IP, KOS, and myself gave him our word, so to speak. It was because of the discussion that the three of us were having, that Redd decided to do this in the first place...And here we are, just simply discussing which book we'd all like to start off with, and already got one poster throwing personal insults and stuff...

I can't speak for IP and KOS even though I feel they'd agree with me. When I give my word about something, it's important to me to keep it. And I feel as if my word has been broken to Redd and I somehow let him down as well as everyone else that was involved in wanting this forum set up...
