Anyone who hasn't read The Prince by Machiavelli, read it, if you have read it, read it again until it makes sense to you.

Bad Trip, How the War on Drugs is Destroying America, by Joel Miller's a good one.
MITI and the Japanese Miracle: The Growth of Industrial Policy 1925-1975 by Chalmers Johnson, it's one of the most boring things I've ever read, but it shows some things that raise some really interesting economic questions.
Rational Choice in an Uncertain World: The Psychology of Judgement and Decision Making by Reid Hastie and Robyn M Dawes, this book changed my world.

I keep a copy of The Prince on the shelf in my office and have for the past 8 years. It is probably the most ratty book I have because it's been thumbed through so much.

I had to read it a few times before its message really took hold, but once that happened it changed my life.

You should also read Sun Tzu's The Art of War. That one will change your career.

Yes, I know.
I agree with you on this post. However, As much as I like the way your brain works. I was happy when I left HP that I wasn't going to see anymore of your preaching. I think the problem is that you are becoming a one trick pony. Your same message bleeds in to every thread. IMHO

I really don't mean to sound like an asshole

.
Have you read the "48 Laws of Power"?

Along those lines.

I took a Lit class and the Prince was studied and the teacher was crazy about it....meaning foaming at the mouth. I kind of thought it was cool.

I read that one recently and it seemed to me that much of it was extrapolated from other historical documents and lore.

The actual text was very minimal. AT least in the version I read.

There's one book I'd love to eventually discuss myself...

They Shoot Horse's, Don't They? by Horace McCoy

In the dark years of the 1930s, dance marathons became popular as a way for desperate people to compete for prize money. Sometimes the events would drag on for weeks as contestants pushed themselves far beyond the point of physical, mental, and emotional exhaustion, the dancers shambling around the floor in a half-dead stupor. People would then pay to sit in the bleachers, watch the event, and cheer on their favorites. It's a powerful, tragic period piece that reminds us of the privations of the Great Depression.

This book was also made into a film, starring Jane Fonda and Michael Sarrazin.

Which book are we going to read? I thought there would be more progress on this by now. Maybe I misread something, but I thought I would be buying/renting the book by now?
