Synopsis

In 2008, the presidential election became blockbuster entertainment. Everyone was watching as the race for the White House unfolded like something from the realm of fiction. The meteoric rise and historic triumph of Barack Obama. The shocking fall of the House of Clinton-and the improbable resurrection of Hillary as Obama's partner and America's face to the world. The mercurial performance of John McCain and the mesmerizing emergence of Sarah Palin. But despite the wall-to-wall media coverage of this spellbinding drama, remarkably little of the real story behind the headlines has yet been told.

In Game Change, John Heilemann and Mark Halperin, two of the country's leading political reporters, use their unrivaled access to pull back the curtain on the Obama, Clinton, McCain, and Palin campaigns. How did Obama convince himself that, despite the thinness of his résumé, he could somehow beat the odds to become the nation's first African American president? How did the tumultuous relationship between the Clintons shape-and warp-Hillary's supposedly unstoppable bid? What was behind her husband's furious outbursts and devastating political miscalculations? Why did McCain make the novice governor of Alaska his running mate? And was Palin merely painfully out of her depth-or troubled in more serious ways?
I purchased Game Change yesterday and I'm already halfway through it. If you are a political junkie like I am,you will love this book! Enjoy the evil tactics of politics, triangulation and the tremendous egos of today's politicians.Find out why long term friends betray each other in pursuit of the all important prize! Learn the technique of "walking back" a previous statement.Learn why distortions made on both sides of the aisle have become acceptable practice!

Game Change is not just a good read...it takes you deeply into the background of the candidates lives and the sacrifices they must make to their family and to their morality. Yes...it's everything you expected and "suspected" but still riveting to witness it unfold before your eyes.

Believe me...it's a page turner!!! I had to discipline myself or I would've read the entire book in one night. All of us know that the world of politics is a tough and often evil game. Treachery, triangulation and deception are a given. I had most of the candidates pegged pretty well but I was floored when I found out I was totally wrong about Elizabeth Edwards and so were the authors of his book! The behind the scenes story of these candidates was nothing short of mesmerizing. The money grubbing for donations (downright prostitution) in some cases..and selling one's ideals in order to continue the fight I found sad and disturbing.Candidates who hate going negative but find that they have few other options remind us that this is a very serious game where one must compromise their own principles to win but they may sell their souls in the process.

The infighting can be horrific...finger pointing and the blame game are on steroids in this book. Those opposing Obama had their work cut out for them, they were well schooled in the art of political warfare but this campaign demanded new strategy....why? because they were fighting a "movement" not just a candidate.

I heard about the Edwards thing being revealing. I'm looking forward to reading it and I hope I can get to the Fed guy's book about what happened during the meltdown. Both should be page turners.

With this book's revelations and the tape rumor it looks even worse for Edwards. Though I don't think the book paints wifey in a great light either, but I'll read it first and see for myself.
I heard all kinds of comments from "What if he had been President?" to Giraldo's saying Edwards was the lowest of the low or scum or something. I don't think Giraldo has room to talk about sex scandals but JMO.
