I adore cats, in fact I have three.

But if one just looks at a cat as though they'd never seen one, what they will behold is a killing machine.

I gave my gray/blue cat to my baby daughter. She has a resume of widowing bird families and devouring much bigger prey all over the forests, lawns and campsites of America.
We're so proud of her.
Is that normal

I remember watching a show on the Discovery Channel some time back comparing the top killers in the Animal kingdom. Housecats were the #1 killer. If you put a tiger, lion, shark, wolf, etc. in a closed environment with lots of prey, they'll kill and eat when they are hungry. Put a housecat in the same kind of environment and they will kill until there's nothing left to kill, regardless of whether they are hungry. This is a bred-in trait among housecats. The best rat killers were the cats who were kept and the crappy rat killers ended up dead. Housecats are not nice animals.

Cats are also cruel to their prey. I once watched a cat toy with a mouse for almost half an hour before it finally killed the mouse. It would catch it and then let it go only to catch it again. He/she played with that poor thing, then once it was dead walked away with a smirk on his/her face. Ok, so it wasn't really a smirk, but you could tell he/she was proud of them self.

Domestic cats are lethal hunters, killing at least 275 million other animals a year in Britain, a report showed today.
The apparently cuddly pets prey on a number of declining and endangered species, including water voles and dormice, said the Mammal Society.
The survey, called Look What the Cat Brought in, found that the average household cat caught or killed between 30 and 40 creatures a year.
With an estimated nine million pet cats in this country, the haul amounted to 200 million mammals, 55 million birds and 10 million reptiles and amphibians.
