Okay, so a lot of people are up in arms about Ann Romney's participation in the "rich persons activity" of dressage. Here is a clip of the Young Turks going off about it. The only redeeming portion of this video is a small snip starting at about three minutes in...
For the record, many if not most sports are funded by the super rich. The super rich own the teams, pay the salaries, and such of virtually every sport. I don't see these guys complaining about basketball where Mark Cuban spends millions of dollars on players.
I get that people want to make a big deal out of dressage, but I find that to be stupid on many levels... Here is a video of a horse in rider in action.
I find it pretty amazing what these horses can do, and I don't see it as being any different than say something like this...
or this...
We don't hear about the "rich person activity" of barrel racing or team roping or bareback bronc riding... In fact, many would consider those activities to be "beer league" in the grand scheme of things. But the truth of the matter is that it takes just as much effort, money, and training to prep horses for those events as it does dressage. I think people would be hard pressed to ever classify the rodeo as a "rich persons activity".
Then we move on to the equine therapy...
It's a great treatment for MS, and though accused of being a "rich persons activity" there are many charitable organizations out there providing these services with little or no charge.
So let's not stone the Romney's for dressage... If you're going to bash them, pick something that actually means something.
