The dog who sniffs out stolen valuables on his morning walks

A Labrador has been dubbed 'Sherlock Hounds' after solving dozens of crimes by sniffing out hundreds of pounds worth of stolen goods while out on his morning walks.
Two-and-a-half-year-old Archie has dug up stolen purses, wallets, handbags and jewellery that have been discarded in woodland after muggings and robberies.
Over the past eight months Archie's owner Debbie Linnane has handed over hundreds of pounds worth of items to the police who have been able to reunite them with their rightful owners.

Sherlock Hounds: Debbie Linnane and her Labrador Archie in Bretton Park, Peterborough, where he has uncovered numerous lost valuables worth hundreds of pounds

Chocolate Labrador Archie - now better known by his nickname Sherlock - has dug up a treasure trove of items using his sharp sense of smell while on his morning walks in Bretton Park, Peterborough, England.

Owner Debbie, 54, said: 'In the past eight months alone he has found a handbag, a wallet and a ladies' purse, along with other items such as sports equipment.

Following his nose: Debbie Linnane says Labrador Archie has had no training
but is a natural for sniffing out stolen goods

'We have just been walking in Bretton Park near the dyke, when he runs off and disappears, before bringing the items back to me.
'He has had no training at all, so it is a bit of a surprise he does it.
'I have taken all the items to the police station.

'I am not sure whether police managed to track down the owners of all the items but the owner of one purse phoned back to say thank you.

'Apparently money had been taken from the purse, but all her cards were still in there, but it seems like she had been the victim of a robbery.
'It was nice we were able to return her property.

'Archie must have found hundreds of pounds worth of items over the past few months.

'We call Archie 'Sherlock Hounds' now, he has got a real nose for valuables.'
Archie's special talent also comes in handy at Debbie's home - especially when the TV remote control has gone missing.

Debbie added: 'He is also good at finding things around the house.
'Whenever we lose the remote control, he is always the one who will find it for us.

'We have had him since he was 12 weeks old and he is now two-and-a-half years old and he is the only dog we have. 'We used to have another Labrador but he kept on finding tennis balls.'

My dog has the embarrassing habit of sniffing out valuables when we are out and about, but they aren't actually stolen.

I usually offer an apologetic "bad dog", as she walks away in a huff.........

My dogs like decomposing "valuables" .... I think what we have is a failure of communication vis a vis "valuables"
