Default Immigration agency says backlog virtually gone

I am doing this and watching Lou Dobbs, his guest a preacher Rodriguez say the system is broken, that it is taking so long for the immigrants to get approval and citizenship.
yet I am reading this. So it must be that some want to allow the 10-20 million have citizenship no matter what.

Immigration agency says backlog virtually gone

By ANABELLE GARAY, Associated Press Writer Anabelle Garay, Associated Press Writer 43 mins ago

DALLAS FBI name checks on people seeking to work or live in the United States or become citizens are getting completed more quickly, slicing through a backlog that had left some petitions pending for more than a year, immigration officials said Monday.

The FBI hired more workers, beefed up its training programs and upgraded its technology to handle the average of 6 million to 7 million applications that stream through the agency each year, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services officials said.

The delays came during the FBI's routine checks for possible criminal backgrounds and national security questions. But now, nearly all name check requests submitted to the FBI are being answered within 30 days. The remaining 2 percent are finished within 90 days, USCIS officials said.

"The FBI has made great strides ... and shown it's capable of sustaining that service level," Michael Aytes, acting deputy director of Citizenship and Immigration Services, told The Associated Press.

Petitions that require more evaluation or interaction with other agencies are not included in the FBI name check backlog count, immigration officials said. Currently, some 6,000 cases flagged during the name check are pending with Citizenship and Immigration Services, including some in which the application was filed several years ago, Aytes said.

"They are being looked at, they don't just sit on a shelf," said Gregory Smith, the agency's assistant director for national security and records verification directorate.

The volume of pending FBI name checks peaked in November 2007 when there were about 350,000 stalled cases. At the time, more than half had been waiting for more than three months and a large number had been pending for more than a year, Aytes said.

Many of those affected were people who had common names for their ethnic group, such as Garcia. Others facing delays included people of Muslim backgrounds. They faced delays that stretched from a few months to a few years, said Crystal Williams, deputy director for programs at the American Immigration Lawyers Association.

In April 2008, the FBI and Citizenship and Immigration Services established milestones and priorities for the name checks. The goals required processing all name checks pending more than three years by May 2008, those pending more than two years by July 2008, and requests pending more than one year by November 2008.

A government audit issued in June 2008 found the FBI had been using old technology and workers without enough training to do security checks.

That same month, a group of Muslim immigrants seeking U.S. citizenship in Missouri filed a federal class-action lawsuit claiming they had been made to wait for months or years because of slow background checks. Some cases have since been resolved.

nursej007, it isn't (and I am not defending Obama) just Obama but a party agenda, in fact both parties. They have pulled about all the voters from the hat. They need fresh blood....
Homeland defense is second to new party affiliation. And don't forget the Feds. Chamber of Commerce's in every state and county and the many different organizations that support this crap policy.

He IS the President.
If he didn't want it passed, it wouldn't be on the agenda.
End of story.

I was referring to all B-4 when this agenda started. And it is part of the damn story, which isn't over yet. The tall, slender, big eared man has not signed anything yet.

You don't really think he'll back out, do you??
I'd be happy to see him drop the issue NOW...
but we both know he won't.

Tall? Not particularly.
Slender? Yep.. (or skinny)
Big eared?

... speaking of big ears... here's the latest jibjab.

You are indeed mistaken. The issues they are talking about is the legal residents who are processing American citizenship, or the illegal aliens who are filing for a change in status based on a valid claim to residency (either through a work visa, or a family member). THAT back log is virtually gone. Processing citizenship used to take close to 2 years, it now is done in mere months. This report has nothing to do with amnesty.

It should be noted that any kind of amnesty program will very likely require a minimum amount of time the person needs to have been in this country in order to prove qualifying residency status. In the proposal floated last time it was 5 years. So no, anyone who has not been here at least 5 years (or maybe more) will not qualify. Nor will the criminals, drug traffickers, etc. etc. since a background check is part of the process (as this article details) Not to mention the sheer amount of $$ it will represent the government. A 'status change' is going for about $1,300 in fees. Plus the certain 'penalty fee' which at a minimum will be $1000 or more. It would likely be anywhere from $1.5 to $3.5 billion dollars. Not to mention lawyers fees, fingerprinting fees, etc. etc. Then it will be easier to send everyone else home,

As long as the border is closed tight, I have no problem with these people staying. It makes no never mind to me that half of the population speaks Spanish, or that whites will be a minority in 2040 something. Deporting everyone is unrealistic, if you have a plan of how it can be done, without declaring martial law and having the police and military knock down doors and drag people out kicking and screaming - very un-American in my view - please feel free to speak up.
