Why are prices going up so fast?
 

Things are getting crazy expensive. We buy construction materials from manufacturers all over the country, and within the last 2 months they have raised prices AGAIN!. 15-25% across the board. Of course, we pass on those prices to the GC, the GC passes it on to the end user, and the end user passes it back to you and I.

Are there any plans to combat it? They could reverse the oil reversals Biden made when he took office. That would help everyone, wouldn't it? Energy runs this country, it has now doubled, it raises the prices for virtually EVERYTHING. Biden could do something about it if he wanted to.

Because we are, as a nation, spending money we don't actually have and devaluating the dollar. As for President Biden, that is actually the plan.

Continental Congress did the same thing during the revolutionary war. Ben Franklin claimed by the end of the war, it took a wheel barrel full of money to buy a loaf of bread.

In 245 years, we haven't learned a thing.

The Democrats have plans to combat it. Raise taxes on the rich and corporations (not that they pay taxes anyway due to the way income in structured). And when that doesn't work, they will raise taxes on the middle class, the only ones that actually pay income taxes.

In the mean time, they are just going to keep printing money and handing it out in vote buying efforts hoping to remain in power. And when more money is printed and dropped into the economy, all that does is cheapen the money already there, thus resulting in inflation and cost increases.

What could possibly go wrong? :crazy

Prices have been going up on most consumer goods for a long time.
funny, in general, they never seem to come down though.

No, they do not.

The old adage, "What goes up, must come down," is just not true of prices.

Evidently, merchants believe--correctly, it seems--that once Americans become accustomed to paying these higher prices, these merchants can keep the prices high--and no one will complain.

Not exactly. The top 1% pays 40%. Top 9% pays half. Bottom half pays none.

The truth, though, is that half of what we spend, we borrow.

Again, I think your argument is misplaced. Merchants operate on thin margins, and the contractor cannot absorb the double cost of a 2 x 4. So to survive, that cost must be passed on.

Unless you want tasteless tomatoes or wanna wade through nasty WMart shoppers :afraid But even their prices are set across the board. If you have a lot of competition in your area, you're lucky, but it's more than likely just key items.

Directly yes. I am referring to the fact that corporations don't really pay taxes, the collect them for the government. The ultra rich don't pay income taxes because they structure their wealth to were they don't have an income to tax. That's why Warren Buffett can claim that his secretary pays a higher percentage of her wage in tax than he does.

My point is that ultimately, taxes are paid by the consumer and the largest consumer class in this country is the middle class. We may not directly pay the tax, but ultimately it comes out of our pockets.
