On the surface, it seems reasonable enough to accept the opinions of "experts" in the field--after all, it would seem rather strange to prefer the opinions of truck drivers or grocery-store sackers (or even white-collar workers)--but there is a problem. And it is a rather large one.

Those who are touted as "experts" in this field--e.g. Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx--are (understandably enough) much more concerned with the health aspects of this virus than anything else. All other considerations are marginalized, in their minds.

But many of us would consider, also, competing concerns: e.g. the sharply heightened suicide rate; and the astronomical spousal-abuse rate--that do not appear merely tangential concerns to us.

So no, I do not really consider these doctors to be "wrong"; I merely consider them to have a rather narrow perspective.

Experts are great in every field. we depend on them.
but here's the thing i find. It's like dealing with the MSM compared to "alternatives". There are experts that because of a certain position held or a perceived authority are sometimes considered the ONLY rational voices. And those that speak contrary to them are considered outliers or heretics. Instead of fellow experts or investigators who are bringing a different but legit perspective to the table.

In this particular case Dr. Fauci and a certain group predicted far worse consquenses than has appeared and other experts made better predictions.
Dr. Fauci has made certain recommendations and other drs equally as qualified have made different recommendations. But they don't have the ear of the President Or CNN and general public.
So it seems like there's ONLY one "expert" unified opinion on the matter.
that's the general picture.

As far a months long nation wide quarantine goes to stop a virus. Has any country actually done this before? I haven't heard of it. so how do we know it will work "scientifically" speaking? Models? Like the models that said Covid has a 2-5% death rate? What experiments is he basing this recomendation on? And like any supposed treatment one has to take into account the side effects? Does Dr Fauci and Brix have clue of health and other ramifications? No. Can they even guarantee the outcome with the virus? No.
And the financial cost? can they even pretend to know that? Is it worth it? at what point is the cure worse than the disease?

for me it comes down to isolate or die. not a difficult decision.

They have both stated that the financial aspects of this are of no concern to them, they are looking at it merely from a health standpoint.

And therein lies the problem. As a nation, we have to balance the health aspect with the economy to come to a reasonable conclusion. Facui and Brix have tunnel vision when looking at the virus. They are solely focused on the affects of the virus and nothing else.

The virus is only 1 aspect of what is necessary to the health and well being of this nation. Someone has to step up and put the virus in context with the other issues that face this country. Trump needs to be the one to bring in other voices to these pressers and put some perspective into play. However, every time he tries, the Left starts with their usual denouncing of everything he says or does.

And that is your personal decision to make. I don't blame anyone for making such a decision one way or the other. Everyone needs to take care of themselves.

However, not all of us are in the same situations. Not all of us live in NYC or have preexisting conditions that would make us more susceptible to this virus. There needs to be some reason and logic applied to individuals situations. People in rural Nebraska don't need to take the same precautions as people in New York City. This is a large and diverse nation. We are adults. The government needs to give us the facts and allow us to make our own decisions. So far, we are only getting part of the story.

well that's fine as far as it goes, however my 1st point is that there are other experts, just as concerned that, who don't agree with their health recommendations.
You know, a 2nd opinion. But because of their position and the media echo chamber the other options for "treatment" and "prevention" are not even on the table.

Not everyone is following a logical non-threatening course.

There are people who would endanger me via their recklessness if I lived in their state. My town is almost a retirement community.
We are taking active measures within reason. And the young people to their credit are complying with understanding. (see my sig)
Across the river, some duh tards decided to mingle more not less.
What is appalling is the easing of quarantine type measures in Fla with a state population of 75% elderly, while the cases there continue to increase.
One thing I do agree with Trump about is closing immigration. They should have done that immediately after 911 and as soon as we learned this new virus was out and about.
