Default Dominic Sandbrook's take on the current Syria/Russia/US situation

The date is Wednesday, April 12 and in Moscow, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is all business.

After days of mounting tension following the first American air strike against President Bashar al-Assad’s forces in Syria — in response to the suspected poison gas attack on the town of Khan Sheikhun, which killed 87 civilians — America’s top diplomat has arrived to clear the air.
Earlier in the week he met British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson and his G7 counterparts in Italy to discuss fresh sanctions if Russia persisted in its support of Assad’s brutal regime.

Glad you enjoyed it! So, do you think things will pan out that way?

WW3 is possible in many different scenarios. This one includes Trump chiding Putin by twitter which has a Dr. Strangelove feel to it. I think there will be a pause allowing Tillerson and Putin to agree on a few things about Syria. Inspectors will be scrambling around attack sites gathering technical info about the use of sarin. Unless Putin and Assad can realistically come up with any false flag proof, which I don't think they have, then Assad will continue to use sarin, chorine or whatever to finish the job. The situation in North Korea is scarier IMO.

Yes, I think you are right on all your points. Events will probably not pan out the way stated in the article. We are all getting our knickers in a twist over things that might not happen. North Korea is a law unto its own though and that is scarier.

Tillerson and Lavrov came out of their meeting the other day looking grim and pessimistic. My first thought was that this is a good sign because they must have had an absolutely honest exchange free of most of the BS. I understand that Putin, who wasn't going to meet with Rex, met with him after all. I think that Putin has to do some posturing because he has just been accused of being complicit in a chemical weapons attack. For what it's worth, Pres. Trump tweeted "Things will work out fine between the U.S.A. and Russia. At the right time everyone will come to their senses & there will be lasting peace."
