It is all about needs vrs. wants. Democrats in particular, and Republicans to a lessor extent understand the hard choices overspending for the last 40 years was a big mistake. Now it is time to turn the buss around and be responsible to the American people.

Being responsible like more tax cuts for the rich, 26 million people losing their health insurance, a middle finger to Great Lakes, big boost to an already outsized military budget, and weekend multi-million dollar golf trips.

Democrats had 8 years to come up with their own budget cuts.

Any idea what those cuts were?

.... and closing the doors on Overseas Private Investment Corporation that doesn't; receive any funding today and that has generated $1,6 billion in revenue to the US Treasury since 2010 while increasing US exports that lower our trade deficit makes government less costly? How does it do that?

.... and where does the idea come from that we can't afford to operate our government?

My past personal income tax proposal to fund all general expenditures only taxed income above median income. The last time I calculated the rate was in 2014 when median income was about $50,000. The tax rate on income above $50,000 would have been 24% to fund all of the general expenditures. No Deficit! I earned over $100,000/yr for the last ten years of my career before retiring and a 24% tax rate on my income in excess of $50,000 was easily affordable.

If I could easily afford a 24% tax rate on all personal income above $50,000 then anyone with income above $50,000/yr can afford to pay a 24% tax rate on that income. In fact I could have afforded a 30% tax rate and it wouldn't have bothered me at all nor would it have been a financial burden.

Think about this. "When America Was Great" in the 1950's the tax rate was 70% on incomes over about $200,000/yr as I recall. They could afford that tax rate and business soared during the 1950's and 1960's.

If Trump supporters want to "Make America Great Again" then let's start with a 70% tax on ALL earned and unearned income for the top 10% of income earners. They can easily afford that because many of them already have more money in assets than they could spend on consumption in the rest of their lifetime. Not only could we afford all of the current general expenditures we'd have so much federal revenue that we'd be able to pay down the national debt.

All spending authorizations originate in the House of Representatives and the GOP has controlled the House of Representatives since January 2011. The Democrats controlled the House of Representatives during 2009 and 2010 and we were just beginning to dig ourselves out of the financial disaster from the Bush Administration if you can think back that far.

On a positive note the Obama Administration reduced federal government employees in 2016 than Bush had in 2008 although we have more people serving in uniform today than we did under Bush.
