Default Election 2008: Economy

Senator McCain is a true American hero who has earned honor and respect. His service to this country cannot be repaid. Having said this, there are questions one must ask given the current state of our economy.

It has been reported in TIME that Senator McCain, when asked, was unaware of how many homes he owned. He referred the reporter to his staffer. The staffer reported that McCain had at least four, and now it turns out that he has seven. Seven homes! I understand that this is a common plight for those in the "middle class", defined by McCain as those who earn less than 5 million per year. I can't tell you how many times I've lost count of the number of homes I own.. Homes are apparently like socks, just difficult to keep up with. Just last week I was complaining to a neighbor of mine about the difficulties of keeping up with multiple homes.

Sarcasm aside, the fact that Senator McCain cannot recall the number of homes he owns in combination with his definition of middle class shows just how disconnected he is from the average person in the current economy. Living in this country I am under the impression that very few of us own multiple homes or earn more than 200k per year. With so many people struggling to make ends meet in order to pay for their one home, the rampant foreclosures, and the skyrocketing cost of living, it's important to get a President who understands the plight of the average American.

Serving in the military is honorable service and those who serve in the military are paid by the American taxpayer. Rightfully so. Serving in the legislature can be an honorable service, and those who serve in the legislature are paid by the American taxpayer. Rightfully so. The vast majority of those who have served in the military enter the private sector after they have completed their service. Not John McCain. McCain went from military service to political service. His entire life, he has been paid by the American taxpayer (or his wife). Rightfully so. But how does a man who has spent his entire life on the payroll of the U.S. Government know anything about working in the economy? How can he understand the great difficulty that some vetrans have finding work? How can he understand the lack of education limiting an individuals ability to find a job? How can he know what the rest of us who have held a job in the private sector know? He can't. His words supporting the private sector are empty because he's never worked in the private sector. He's never put food on the table that hasn't been paid for by the American taxpayer (or his wife).

Barack Obama on the other hand grew up in a single parent home and understands the struggles of the average American. He understands those struggles because he lived them. Obama was blessed to get a great education, and he's used that education to create economic opportunity for others through work in both the private and public sector. He has been on the lowest end of the economic scale, and through his entreprenuerial spirit and apparent skill at writing, is now on the higher end of the economy. He understands how government policies impact the average citizen and their buying power. Obama is a true advocate of the private sector because he's been in it. He understands the failings of both government and the private sector in relation to the economy and thus is better equipped to work for the average American to create an economy that works for Main Street.

We have a clear choice on the economy. One who has earned every time from the American taxpayer and has admitted to not knowing much about the economy, and one who has experienced the economy in all it's forms. It's up to you.

As I stated on the other thread related to this latest smear, I doubt this revelation will resonate for very long if at all with the American public. McCain is a man who has been used to living all over the world due his dad's service and the fact many politicians have multiple dwellings to accommodate their office.
Their wives sometimes have income and careers that outweigh their own.
And Americans will see this for what it is: a campaign tactic.

No..it's a run of the mill "gaff" that may have legs, most people..even very affluent people know how many homes they own! It shows at least a minor disconnect with the average Joe.They will try to spin this minor disconnect into a major disconnect but it may be too late in the game.It may influence some of the 11% who call themselves Independents but most people have already locked into their candidate and the die is caste!

For all of the talk about the "dead heat'' between Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain that most national polls show - or the slight advantage for McCain that a new Reuter/Zogby poll shows - the tally of state-by-state polling shows a greater advantage for Obama in the count that counts: The Electoral College.Obama vs. McCain: Electoral vote race: The Swamp

RealClearPolitics - Election 2008 - General Election: McCain vs. Obama

I guess with this kind of data, it can't hurt to try anything to help your numbers.
Looks like the country's as divided as ever.

When you add Nader and Barr to the mix:

Quote:
Poll Date Sample Obama (D) McCain (R) Nader (I) Barr

RCP Average 07/27 - 08/16 -- 43.7 41.3 2.8 2.3

Spread

Obama +2.4
I think R. Paul is still on the ballot some places as well.
