![]() I believe Dick Morris is right on target as regarding President Obama's attempt to frame the issue of the government shutdown in a way that is most favorable to his own position, by using weasel words in place of the unvarnished truth:

![]() Not only does our President distort the meaning of words to advance his agenda, he passes off ridiculous deceptions as fact such as "raising the debt ceiling doesn't mean more debt." Just because every time the debt ceiling goes up the debt increases is no reason to believe itwill happen again.

![]() A truly serious person would respond to the substance of his comments, rather than attempting an ad hominem attack upon the messenger.
But for someone placed in a position of having no reasoned rebuttal available, mere deflection may be the only remaining option... |

The United States has had some sort of legislative limit on debt since 1917. From time to time, political disputes arise when the Treasury advises Congress that the debt ceiling is about to be reached and indicating that a default is imminent. When the debt ceiling is reached, and pending an increase in the limit, Treasury may resort to "extraordinary measures" to buy more time before the ceiling can be raised by Congress. The United States has never reached the point of default where Treasury is incapable of paying its debt obligations. If this situation were to occur, it is unclear whether Treasury would be able to prioritize payments on debt to avoid a default on its debt obligations, but it would at least have to default on some of its non-debt obligations. A default could trigger a variety of economic problems including a financial crisis and a decline in output that would put the country into a recession. wiki poo ![]()
