Default Better Off?

Quote:
When you look at a presidential candidate, you are faced with the sobering fact that, if elected, he will be the most powerful person on earth for the next four years and have power over not only weapons of mass destruction, but also the economy, foreign policy, social and civil rights issues - and the quality of your life.

New candidates have to run on a limited record of public service, their character, their personality and their believability.

If the person is an incumbent, that person should stand on past achievements and the accomplishments, or lack thereof, in the last four years.

Being a good president requires much more than being a nice and charismatic guy, a good public speaker and looking good for the television cameras.

A president is supposed to be a leader, a pacesetter, a father figure, a pursuer of justice, and a champion of the American way of life, defending it around the world verbally and militarily, if necessary.

I usually do not take what entertainers say seriously as they are mostly idiots, but this was a well written piece and asked all the right questions.

It is a well written article but it leans on the idea that if we just got the right President in office he'd fix everything for us. It is going to be painful to tackle entitlement spending but it is the only way to get our debt and deficit under control. Obama will continue to deny the problem. Romney has shown a willingness to address it with his endorsement of the Ryan budget. But public support will be needed for sensible reforms to overcome Leftist reactionaries.

This has been proven wrong in some eyes...

I think some PW members write better pieces here every week.....

I really don't give a damn about entertainer political opinions.....

Even when I agree with them I wish they'd focus on their craft instead......

Does that make me a bad guy......?

Hope not....

No it doesn't make you a bad guy. The problem arises when voters attach outsized significance to the opinion of say a famous actor for being able to recite dramatically a script someone else wrote. Then we get a President Obama limited to the same ability.

Ok, where is the problem with entertainers for right wing candidates on FOX then.....?

What was your Ted Nugent take when he was in the spotlight a few weeks back......?

This game works both ways and if voters make up their minds on what their entertainers think, we all have a big problem......

We agree the problem is when people adopt a celebrity's politics based only on their fame. Sympathy for Castro's bloody dictatorship expressed by Bruce Springsteen being an example. How that translates into a problem with celebrities on Fox or anywhere else is a mystery. The problem is that with the biggest celebrity in the world in the WH now some people blindly follow his policies.

Mitt's not running on a platform of hope and change along with being the first black President so it is doubtful his celebrity status will be significant.
