'Occupy' anarchists arrested for 'plotting to blow up Ohio bridge' after months of FBI surveillance

The target of the plot was Brecksville-Northfield High Level Bridge, which carries a four-lane highway over part of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park in the Brecksville area, about 15 miles south of downtown Cleveland, the FBI said.

Authorities said three of the men were arrested Monday and are self-described anarchists, not tied to international terrorism.

It was not immediately clear whether the men had attorneys. All of the suspects, ranging in age from 20 to 35, were expected to appear in federal court this afternoon.

The FBI said three were arrested on charges of conspiracy and trying to use explosives to damage property affecting interstate commerce. They were identified as Brandon L. Baxter, 20; Douglas L. Wright, 26; and Anthony Hayne, 35. Their hometowns were not provided.

Charges were pending against the other two men, who have been identified as Connor C. Stevens, 20, and Joshua S. Stafford, 23.

Occupy Cleveland media coordinator Jacob Wagner said some group members knew the suspects, but added that the protest group had no knowledge of the alleged plan to blow up the bridge and would denounce such actions.

'Occupy Cleveland has, from the very start, espoused peaceful, nonviolent, direct action,' he said. 'These alleged actions taken by these people were completely autonomous.'

The announcement of the arrests came as Occupy demonstrators in other states joined protests marking International Workers Day, or May Day, today.

Baxter, Wright and Hayne allegedly considered different plots over several months, including distracting law enforcement with smoke grenades while trying to bring down financial institution signs in downtown Cleveland.

They even considered setting off a car bomb outside the Federal Reserve Bank there, according to an FBI affidavit unsealed on Tuesday.

They also plotted an attack on a center where federal, state and local authorities coordinate operations and resources, known as a fusion center.

Every seen a "peaceful movement" with more violent members?...

The Occupy spokeman says "Who? What?...We know these guys, but they have nothing to do with us!!!!"...

But one of the men arrested shows his employer as "OccupyCleveland" on Facebook...

He's also one of the organizers of Occupy Cleveland...

Ultimately though, the bombers failed.

I'm waiting until tonight to see if the Black Bloc's destruction threats are as lame as the rest of this ridiculous movement's.

These Marxist nimrods are turning into the terrorist version of the gang that couldn't shoot straight.

Don't know if you noticed but they are not a peaceful group. So connecting them to one is wrong. Connecting Bill Ayers to them is also wrong but you hoped to involve Obama. vrey smooth...and sad

Because Obama & people like Ayers and these guys who just got arrested have the same philosophy, but Obama believes the goals should be done with the pen and not the sword...

It's the same philosophy the mafia uses...

Oh, you mean my super secret, conspiracy theory that Progressives are Commie Wannabes with a hidden, and sometimes not so well hidden agenda of moving the country further and further left towards a socialist, or if you prefer Communist state?

That takes time. America is still a constitutional republic with rule of law.

Maybe it's like Obama told the Russian minister when he didn't know the mic was hot though - "Wait until my second term".

Don't expect to see your Occupy heroes if he succeeds though. Those guys will be in some gulag hellhole where they look back on the good ol days of American prisons. Either that, or they'll be dead. They'll have served their purpose. Heroes of the revolution tend to disappear after it's all over, and the real Marxist leaders have taken over.

Anyway that's more a private little thought of mine than an actual belief right now. I still think the Occupy movement is driven by the far left though. I'll argue that one with you if you want.
