Default When You're Holding a Hammer (Everything looks like a nail)

This high school football coach from Tennesee wrote a rocking, little country tune that isn't kind to current political policy. He put it on YouTube, and sent the link to the parents on his football team's email list for the parents.

Looks like he's getting fired.

Right or wrong? I don't know. Remember that audio-visual instructor who used school resources to put together a campaign to infiltrate Tea Party rallies with fraudulent protesters? He was investigated. It looked like he was going to get fired. He quit.

So maybe fair's fair. However...remember that teacher who got her school choir to do the pro-Obama "Mmm mmm mmm Barrack Hussein Obama" song. She's still teaching, isn't she?

I don't know. When You're Holding a Hammer is a catchy little tune though. Tea Party anthem anybody?

Sure. Here ya go. Here's the payoff quote to slam the evil righty...

Quote:
The Superintendent of Williamson County Schools refused to say why Glover was fired, but he did speculate it could be an issue of how he obtained the parents email addresses.

"If someone is sending an email to parents using our system or knowledge you obtained through our system, you are limited in what kind of message you can send to parents, " said Dr. Mike Looney.
and here's the evil righty's side.

Quote:
Glover, however, is confident it was the conservative lyrics and his strong stance as a Republican that left him without his team or a job.

Dr. Looney said the only way Glover would get his coaching job back before the team's first game next week was if the principal decides to change her mind.

A person would be hard-pressed to find a democrat in Williamson County. It's a very red county. I doubt very much that he was fired for the lyrics to this song. This is just a political drama for election year gain...not that the repubs in Wmson County will have any trouble electing repubs.

The school system there is known for strictly adhering to rules...trust me on that one, too. I know from personal (and painful) experience that they enforce rules no matter the consequences.

I think it's a cute song - he sings very well. I bet he has a future in music!

Yes, it's a good song - political satire is funny regardless of one's political philosophy (provided one has a sense of humor, of course.)

And, from the Computer Use Guidelines of the Williamson County schools website we find:

Quote:
10. Email

The Williamson County Schools email system has been provided for the internal and external communication of employees and board members. Responsible and ethical use of the email system is required. The email system may not be used for personal gain, or political or religious views or in any illegal, offensive or unethical manner. The email system is intended only for valid and legitimate Williamson County Schools related communication.
Most of the school systems I've dealt with during my life rigidly (read: mindlessly) enforce the rules - both for students and faculty. Add even a single parent complaining about the email and the guy is screwed.

And you're absolutely right about Williamson County being very, very conservative.

My question is "How selective is the district in enforcing the rules?"...

If I were this guy, I'd request an audit of the last few years of emails to see if he's being discriminated against due to his political position...

If it's found that others have displayed their political views with no punishment, then he may have a case of favoritism towards those others...

Or he could be the first (but I kinda doubt it)...

And it doesn't matter how conservative the county is...all it takes is one or two complaints and the powers that be get paranoid...

I'm sure he'll do exactly that - he'd be an idiot not to.

And you're absolutely right about one or two complaints creating paranoia - most school administrations have really good CYA expertise.

But you're absolutely wrong about it not mattering how conservative the county is - the school superintendent is appointed by an elected school board.

And, finally, it's idiotic to fire the guy - write him up - give him a bad mark on his record - give him a poor evaluation - do something that's appropriate.

And some will take action WITHOUT complaints because they are so afraid they might get one...

I disagree...I would've agreed if you said that the super would "tend" to be conservative, but I don't find it an absolute...

Even in an area that's 80% conservative, if those 20% liberals are active and the majority is passive, you'd end up in these kinds of scenarios...Or the super got the job because he was seen as something he really wasn't (Look at the 2008 presidency)...

Agreed...

Besides an audit of emils, I also demand an audit of others that have been "written up" or had some other form of punishment to see if a person(s) kept their job after doing something much more egregious...

There's a big difference between something not mattering and something mattering - there are also degrees of difference of something mattering - it can matter a little or a lot. So, since your statement that "it doesn't matter how conservative the county is" is absolute, then it's wrong.
