Though it is to late for this soldier/mother we do agree that something needs to be done about this type of issue.

As more of the military today is families who do have problems with long deployments.

I think part of the immigration situation could help solve some of these problems.

Just a thought.

Perhaps this is a case for not allowing women in the military.

This is not out in the civilian workforce. Those units train for months and months for deployment so that they can operate as a cohesive unit under the most demanding conditions. That requires the people train together, in a unit. When one of those people refuses to deploy at the last minute in harms unit cohesion and operations. That unit is not operating at top efficiency which all our fighting people deserve. It can cost lives. THAT is the top priority. Soldiers who place their units in higher danger because they refuse to deploy should be dealt with in the harshest manner to set an example to others.

And holding off a deployment because of one soldiers family troubles is not even considerable.

Not really, women were a big help in WWII. We had WAC's and Wav's. We should never have opened up the military to women because of political correctness. They do not belong on war ships , flying combat missions, or being on the front lines.

Even lurpy disagrees with me on this, but hey I'm old fashion that way!

So it's okay to have women in the military but they have their place. Is that it? Kind of like barefoot and in the kitchen?

But it's essentially what you said. Women are okay in the military but only in certain capacities.

Don't go getting ornery with me. I happen to agree.

A woman either wants a military career or she wants to be a mother...choice.

My daughter in law made exactly that choice.

Exactly. But that isn't a politically correct thing to say.
