Ya know something? We already have a public funded health care system. We get tax credits for health care. And my experience with the VA is different then yours.

But really, If we didn't get to write off health care premiums from our taxes would most people have it? What if we had tax credits for our car. Or our postage Or our vacations.

Also, it was nice of you to leave the small detail of people who have multi-million dollar medical claims that get paid 100% but have only paid a fraction of that cost. One of our supervisors where I work had a million dollar baby several years ago and never paid a dime. Do you think that the ins. cos. made bank on his account???
Obviously there are scenarios in which the insurance companies will lose, but the average family does not incur multi-million dollars costs during their lifetime, and even if further down the line something of that nature were to happen in my family, the interests alone on these surpluses probably cover it. If not then why have their revenues sky-rocketed?

In truth, I am now concerned about the no new premiums in private insurance policy in the UHC proposal. That pretty much will eventually bankrupt the insurance industry. I too (like Mikkeyy) am thankful for options, and will not appreciate the government taking them from me, whether I choose to use UHC or not. I'm pretty sure I mentioned that in the other thread on this topic.

Here we are AGAIN.

The Government makes the RULES by which the Banks have to operate.

The Government makes the RULES by which the insurance companies have to operate.

They are not being charged with "breaking the rules".....indeed they are being charged with FOLLOWING the rules.
I'm still waiting for congress to investigate/decide who gets the "official blame" for the economic collapse after all it is ONLY the thing that has MOST AFFECTED more AMERICANS than any other event in history.

Now simply put WHO is responsible for ALL of the problems.

The RULE MAKERS or those that are following the rules?

Actually it wqas Chris Cox who allowed the banks to change the rules without congressional approval. Right?

And its not if insurance companies are playing by the rules. Its if the rules are not enough. Plus like I just said they don't have to compete in the free market if we are allowing the deduction of premium payments.

THEY are ALL GUILTY.

They allow corporations and UNIONS to deduct the cost of healthcare already. Why shouldn't everyone receive a "subsidy" from the government for THEIR OWN healthcare IF that is the goal ....for everyone to HAVE healthcare. Indeed if you allow everyone to CHOOSE how they spend their "insurance money/subsidy" there will be far more competition for that money than there is now by "corporations" choosing which policies their employees can have. Many consumers are quite savvy and will actually "shop around" for the best deals. Simply by refusing this choice the liberals have shown that it is not their intent to "fix" it is their actual intention to "take over". I can assure you that as soon as this program begins the liberals will be steering the foolish among us into groups that they will "use" instead of helping people make good choices for themselves. (can you say AARP?)
