I'm certain he wasn't trying to be offensive.

when did insulting ones family become a cultural phenomenon?

"Your mother" jokes became common in North American pop culture in the early 1990s. The Pharcyde's 1992 song "Ya Mama" echoed it.[4] Mexican film Y Tu Mama Tambien's title is an equivalent usage in Spanish ("and your mother too"). There is also a television show Yo Momma featuring contestants "playing the dozens". The Australian hiphop outfit Butterfingers released a song called "Yo Mama" that made number 17 on the 2004 Triple J Hottest 100.[5]

In the early nineties, British comedy duo Newman and Baddiel of The Mary Whitehouse Experience added an extra layer of irony to the mother insult by using it extensively in their "History Today" routines in which two restrained elderly university professors debate history seriously until breaking into childish insults, often using the format "See that X? That's your mom that is."

sorry, but I don't find that kind of humor funny, nor do I think that just because some moron sings a song or tells jokes about someones mother it doesn't give anyone the right to insult mine, yours' or anyone else. And, I would question anyones sensibilities that would allow a family member to be treated as in such a manner.

I'm just sayin' that I'm CERTAIN, no offense was intended. Now that he knows your true sensitivities, and that your response to his quoting Monty Python wasn't just a sarcastic response, it WOULD be rude to use those jokes. It wouldn't be "rude" in a casual conversation joking around way amongst friends, but toward you, knowing now what we know about your sensitivities, it would be.

I won;t ever joke about "yo momma." (I don't generally anyway, but...)

Hey when one is new to the forum they should be reading and learning to get to know the members.

For a newbie to attack family is stupid and being an idot. But that is just IMHO..
The clown had not even found the Welcome to the Forum topic so we even had any idea of him/her....

You did and introduced yourself, told us about yourself. And continued to present yourself as wise, informed and worthy.

All we know of this person is that he/she is rough, insulting and can't debate futher than it's opinion which is one word in a posted story. He/she defend criminals and not the topic... I'm referring to the 300 arrested topic.

Now I mean about hairball, not your post. MrLiberty has the right to be upset...

I just think one needs to be a little flexible when it comes to the written word and an anonymous forum. There will be all age groups and all social backgrounds and life experiences. Those who can should (IMO) extend a little tolerance--especially when it comes to the tone of a post. Tone is EASILY misunderstood, and emoticons are no substitute for clarification.

I didn't think MrLib was offended at first--I thought he was just feigning outrage. I was wrong. He didn't like it. Now we all know. Good deal.

This went well IMO!

I had to defend my friend, this forum B-4 Obama was small and a community who knew each other. Like family we had our rough spots and went forward.

Look at the membership we almost doubled sense Obama was elected. Which is great even if the left now have gained more power on the board.

Most can't find the "Welcome to the Forum" till well after they jump in and post a dozen times. So then they don't borther.

And most don't start by attacking anyone. But like every family there has to be one...

Mrlib has gotten his point across and I'm sure he feels better. I would have said little and placed him on my ignore list right then.

But I let hairball make a fool of himself/herself first... He/she kept at me in the 300 arrested thread yet another wanted the military invoved and agreed in principal with me, yet he/she chose to continue to attack me.

I call a spade a spade once pushed myself. And pray afterwards...

Well...I'm only going off what was here in this thread. I don't know about that other stuff.

And as for the growth of the forum--I think that's a good thing. Yeah--a small forum is cozy, but more posters is more ideas and more ideas is more opportunity to learn and change, or learn and confirm. Either way, it's a win--as the forum grows, the opportunity as human beings communicating grows. It's worth putting up with the growing pains, IMO.

As stated above I agree and the staff does too. In time I will take hairball off my ignore list..
I don't like to use it as it takes away another rights which I fought for. Call it a time out for hairball...
hairball pushed to hard and needed it... Or I might have been banned for a few days.

And NO NEWBIE is going to defeat me that way... Sure one could say I would have defeated myself... But in cases like this IMO the answer is I was defeated...
I was banned for a week once here.. And then Michael1 I believe upset me and I left for a while and forgot the name PW. Then my old PC went south and I lost the site. So another 4 months went by B-4 I got back. I don't plan on it happening again.
If I get banned I quit period. And will not return, period. My choice and it is final.
