The Covid Spider and Skin in the game.

It seems that many people are at odds these days over the current situation.
I believe what is happening, is akin to burning down your house to kill a spider.

Those that live in the house are terribly afraid of spiders, as are the neighbors.
Burning down the house will surely kill the spider, and all will be happy when it is gone.

But the home owner is the one that will have to spend the time, effort and money to rebuild the house, because he is the only one with skin in the game.

It is almost exactly like that with COVID-19 The people I know that are advocating for keeping people at home, and keeping businesses shut down, do not have skin in the game.

They are either successfully retired, have no fear of losing their job, or do not have a job for one reason or another.

Those of us that have businesses to run, are responsible for the livelihoods of many people. Many people have already lost their job, and unemployment is nearing depression levels.

If a retired couple got a letter in the mail saying that their pension would be put on hold until people went back to work, would they change their mind?

What if their kids lost their jobs and could not afford their rent, or mortgage, and were on the street? Would they change their minds then?

People that are afraid of spiders, and/or do not have skin in the game, should stay at home and let the rest of us start rebuilding the house, while we still have the means to do so.
The house is already burned down, letís not dig a hole and bury it.

That was an excellent analogy.

U.S. Coronavirus Death Toll Is Far Higher Than Reported, C.D.C. Data Suggests

Total deaths in seven states that have been hard hit by the coronavirus pandemic are nearly 50 percent higher than normal for the five weeks from March 8 through April 11, according to new death statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That is 9,000 more deaths than were reported as of April 11 in official counts of deaths from the coronavirus.

The new data is partial and most likely undercounts the recent death toll significantly. But it still illustrates how the coronavirus is causing a surge in deaths in the places it has struck, probably killing more people than the reported statistics capture. These increases belie arguments that the virus is only killing people who would have died anyway from other causes. Instead, the virus has brought a pattern of deaths unlike anything seen in recent years.

If you look at the provisional deaths from all causes, death counts in New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Massachusetts, Illinois, Maryland and Colorado have spiked far above their normal levels for the period. In New York City, the home of the biggest outbreak, the number of deaths over this period is more than three times the normal number. (Recent data suggests it could have reached six times higher than normal.)...read more ...

And the stress of this all, the inability to exercise as they once did, the stress of not knowing if they will have a job to go back to, or a viable business to run after investing their lives in it, has nothing to do with the rise of deaths, I am sure.

I wonder what those States with the increase in death rates have in common.....

Interesting, it seems, that you cite only the happenings in blue states (with the possible exception of Colorado; and it is purple, although trending blue--at the presidential level, anyway).

links or videos of sickness and death due to this?
I think people are more resilient than some give them credit for. just look at all the new cooking videos on youtube. as one example of lemonade from lemons.
the initial counting was low no doubt. we still only test 28 per 1,000 people

I do not even know what you might mean by this.

But perhaps you could elucidate...
