Default Justin Amash leaves the GOP

Well, Justin Amash--a congressman from Michigan (and formerly a Republican--sorta-kinda, anyway)--seceded from the Republican Party.

At best, he might have been described as a RINO.

He has now become an independent.

I suppose this may be called his personal Declaration of Independence.

Personally, I say good riddance...

Gonna make next year's election for the seat interesting, that's for sure. Amash is running for re-election as an Indie, we might see a member of the Meijer family in as a centrist Republican, and the Dems could nab this seat if the conservative vote is split enough.

“I don't think that the government should be attempting to spend money at his businesses,” Amash told The Hill.
“The two-party system is hurting America,” Amash tweeted this week.

I would certainly not wish to present myself as an expert on this matter--I am not--but it is my understanding that an independent has almost no chance in Michigan; that he would actually have a better chance to win as an independent, running for president (and that chance is very slight).

So I seriously doubt that he will run for his current seat as an independent.

I checked his district...They've voted for a Republican president since (at least) 1992...But this is key...

Trump won that district by 10 points (52-42)...That means that although he may represent his constituents by law, he's against them ideologically...That's not gonna play too well...He may get some votes on name recognition (from both sides) from those who don't know the recent backlash against him, but he just might get more Democrat votes due to his anti-Trump stance, and split the Dem voters...

also factor in if they are doing better or worse since 20016
