Default TIMELINE: Surprising historical facts the Democratic Party wouldn’t want you to know

Hmmmmm....

This is sh*t we've already known. Libs try to make conservatives out to be racists, bigots, etc. but history and the truth doesn't lie.

TIMELINE: Surprising historical facts the Democratic Party wouldn’t want you to know

Quote:
Democrats can say whatever they want about the GOP today, but the fact remains that the Republican party was instituted to end slavery in a time when Democratic leaders refused to acknowledge black Americans as “persons” instead of “property,” forcibly removed Native Americans from their land, and even established the Ku Klux Klan to fight against constitutional rights gained by blacks after the Civil War.
Quote:
1792 – Thomas Jefferson and James Madison founded the Democratic-Republican Party (yes, both together), a party founded on the libertarian principle of limited government.

1829 – The first official Democratic Party president, Andrew Jackson, took office.

1830 – President Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act into law. Under this act, Native American tribes living east of the Mississippi were rounded up and marched to camps farther west.

1830’s – The US Supreme court ruled in favor of Cherokee Indians in a suit against Georgia. The ruling said the Cherokee Nation could not be forcibly removed from their homes. Andrew Jackson overruled the decision and the Cherokee people were rounded up at gunpoint and forced out. One in four Cherokee people died during the inhumane journey which became known as the Trail of Tears.

1840’s – The Democratic Party adopted the doctrine of manifest destiny: the idea that white Americans were divinely entitled to dominate the North American continent.

1854 – A new anti-slave political party was formed to secure equal rights for black Americans. It was named the Republican Party because it’s founders wanted to return to the principles of freedom and equality set forth in the governing documents of the republic.

1856 – The first Republican presidential candidate ran on a platform that included only nine planks, six of which were for black equality and equal rights for African Americans.

That same year, the Democratic platform strongly defended slavery, stating that abolitionist efforts threatened to “diminish the happiness of the people.” The Democrats won the election.

Since nobody ever said that, no.

Oh, OK I thought that tearing down statues of Confederates said just that!

What does that action say to you?

Propaganda is almost always based upon half-truths so let's review a few of these historical facts.

Quote:
1792 – Thomas Jefferson and James Madison founded the Democratic-Republican Party (yes, both together), a party founded on the libertarian principle of limited government.
It is true that both Jefferson and Madison embraced limited government but neither of them embraced the minimalistic government that the current Republican Party (and Libertarian Party) endorse. They embraced "necessary government" based upon the protections of the unalienable rights of the people. The size and power of the government was directly related to how large and powerful it needed to be based upon the violations of the unalienable rights of the people. This was based upon this First Principle of Government:

The First Principle of limited government means that the protection of unalienable rights is the legitimate purpose and limit of government requires the government to be strong enough to fulfill its purpose yet limited to that purpose.

Limited government never implied small government. A minimalistic government, as embraced by Republicans, isn't capable of protecting the unalienable rights of the people and is just as intolerable as a tyrannical government.

By the way both Jefferson and Madison were extreme progressive liberals and not conservatives by any stretch of the imagination. In fact they went beyond just being "progressive liberals" that seek a methodical step by step process to bring about changes to the social, economic, and political institutions. Instead, with the Declaration of Independences they became "revolutionary liberals" willing to fight to bring about social justice based upon the natural rights of the people.

It was social conservatism that seeks to retain existing social, economic, and political institutions that were responsible for the retention of slavery and not the progressive liberals like Jefferson, Madison, Washington, Hamilton and other founders that all came to reject the institution of slavery.

Social conservatism advocated retention of the institution of slavery. Progressive liberalism advocated abolition of the institution of slavery.

Republican President Trump has expressed great admiration for Andrew Jackson even claiming that Jackson could have prevented the Civil War somehow ignoring the fact that Jackson died 16 years before the Civil War.

Quote:
1840’s – The Democratic Party adopted the doctrine of manifest destiny: the idea that white Americans were divinely entitled to dominate the North American continent.
There wasn't an inherent problem with the doctrine of Manifest Destiny but instead the problem was with the manner in which it was imposed. Instead of absorbing and integrating the Native Americas into the United States the policy was to use tyrannical force to subject the Native American population into submission to the government of the United States.

1854 – A new anti-slave political party was formed to secure equal rights for black Americans. It was named the Republican Party because it’s founders wanted to return to the principles of freedom and equality set forth in the governing documents of the republic.

That same year, the Democratic platform strongly defended slavery, stating that abolitionist efforts threatened to “diminish the happiness of the people.” The Democrats won the election.
In 1854 the Republican Party was founded based upon social liberal ideology.

Abraham Lincoln was a very progressive liberal for his time.

After being elected as a Republican president in 1860 Abraham Lincoln abandoned the Republican Party before his re-election in 1864. In 1864 Lincoln ran as the National Union Party candidate that was a coalition of former Republicans and Democrats, all social liberals, that advocated abolition of slavery.

Fast forward to more current historical events.

1950's - 1960's
The Republican Party of President Eisenhower was based upon the ideology of the Rockefeller Republicans that embraced fiscal conservative/social liberal policies. The Rockefeller Republican influence was in decline by the early 1960's losing it's social liberal ideology but at the same time the social conservatism of the Democrats that embraced racism specifically in the South was also in decline and being replaced by social liberalism. It was a crossing point in history where the remaining social liberal Republicans and the newer social liberal Democrats were able to pass the significant civil rights legislation in the 1960's.

Democratic presidents Kennedy and Johnson moved the Democrats towards more a social liberal ideology while Nixon that became the Republican president in 1968 was basically social neutral moving Republicans towards social conservatism.

1970's
Nixon remained social neutral until his resignation and Ford continued that social neutral agenda when he became the next Republican president.

In 1976 Jimmy Carter became the next Democratic president and he moved Democrats more to the left with social liberal policies. The "social conservative racists of the Southern "Dixie" states were really being pushed out of the Democratic Party during Carter's four years in office.

1980
Ronald Reagan was the Republican candidate and was fundamentally "social neutral" like Ford and Nixon had been in the 1970's. Jimmy Carter was the incumbent Democratic candidate. The social conservative racists in the "South" revolted against Carter's social liberal policies and joined with the Republicans in supporting Ronald Reagan. For the first time since the Civil War the former "Confederate" states overwhelmingly supported Reagan leading to sweep of all these Southern states except Georgia.

During the Reagan administration the Republican Party was infiltrated by the Neo-Cons (former social conservative Democrats) and the "Religious Right" that also held the same social conservative ideologies. The Social Conservative "racists" of the South all but abandoned the Democratic Party and became Republicans

1990's to Present
The social conservative movement that the former Democrats brought to the Republican Party grew in the following decades. No longer was the Republican Party the social liberal party of the Rockefeller Republican that fought for civil rights in the 1950's and 1960's. It wasn't even the social neutral party of Nixon, Ford and Reagan. The Republican Party became the party of social conservatism and that included the racism that the social conservative Democrats had brought with them when they jumped ship from being Democrats to Republicans. Today the Republican president is Donald Trump and in many ways he's the reincarnation of Democratic President Andrew Johnson that arguably the most racist president in our nation's history prior to Donald Trump.

Republicans today need to remember that every time they use the term "progressive liberal" in a derogatory manner they're condemning the founding fathers of the United States that were far more progressive and far more liberal than anyone living today.
