Default People Are Officially Done With John Kelly After His 'Absurd' Civil War Comments

I think Kelly has shown himself as a racist and a liar at this point. Time for him to be in Trump's category. Sad!

John Kelly, chief of staff to President Donald Trump, angered many on Monday when he told Fox News’ Laura Ingraham that the Civil War was caused by a “lack of ability to compromise.”

Kelly had been seen by some as a voice of reason in the White House. But his latest comments may have burned up whatever goodwill he had among the president’s critics:

Filmmaker Ken Burns Reminds John Kelly What Caused The Civil War: Slavery

WASHINGTON — Documentary filmmaker Ken Burns has weighed in on White House Chief of Staff John Kelly’s controversial comments about the Civil War, saying that while many factors contributed to the conflict, one caused it: slavery.

Burns’s post to Twitter comes a day after Kelly told Fox News’ Laura Ingraham that a “lack of an ability to compromise led to the Civil War.” Kelly went on to defend Confederate monuments, describe Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee as “an honorable man” who “gave up his country to fight for his state,” and say that “men and women of good faith on both sides made their stand where their conscience had to make their stand.”

The backlash was fierce. In a post to Twitter, author Ta-Nehisi Coates said it was “shocking that someone charged with defending their country, in some profound way, does not comprehend the country they claim to defend.” Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), the sole black Senate Republican, said: “There was no compromise to make ― only a choice between continuing slavery and ending it.”

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders defended Kelly’s comments during a briefing Tuesday, saying “because you don’t like history doesn’t mean that you can erase it and pretend that it didn’t happen.” She also pointed to Burns’ 1990 PBS documentary, “The Civil War.″

“I don’t know that I’m going to get into debating the Civil War, but I do know that many historians, including Shelby Foote in Ken Burns’s famous Civil War documentary, agree that a failure to compromise was a cause of the Civil War,” Sanders said. “There are a lot of historians that think that.”

Burns later posted to Twitter a quote from historian Barbara Fields that is included in his film.

There can be no compromise when dealing with a crime against humanity (slavery in case some here don't get it)

we bent over backwards to "compromise" even counting 3/4 of a man so the vote would count for extra representatives although that 3/4 man could not vote!

Robert E Lee was supposed to free his inherited slaves but fought to keep them, till losing in court. he beat them himself whenever he could and had another servant rub brine in the cuts.

How about just saying he was a guy we should not honor? Can't you agree to that?

While Slavery was an issue, the facts remain that the inability to compromise on Slavery and other issues was the cause of tensions between the Northern industrial states, who benefitted financially from the Chattel slavery system, and the South who were now dependent on it.

I caution those who wish to change our history, and those who succumb to the notion that the Republican North somehow was the unreasonable party in dealing with the Democratic party strongholds of the South. The same said Stubborn Democratic Party from which came the KKK and systematic oppression of former slaves and African immigrants, based entirely on skin color.

And where under the use of generally providing government protection, positive rights, and welfare, still keeps them segregated separated but equal on the plantation.
