Sale of Pristine Wilderness Slated to Happen Six Days Before Christmas
SALT LAKE CITY - October 30 - On election day, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) plans to announce that it will sell oil and gas leases on areas in eastern Utah, including sections of Desolation Canyon, White River, Diamond Mountain, Bourdette Draw, and other lands in the Nine Mile Canyon region. These public lands had largely been off-limits to new oil and gas leasing because of a series of federal court and administrative decisions overturning earlier illegal BLM leasing decisions. Yeah...
And here's a report (From the opponents themselves) saying they've been in Nine Mile Canyon for, at least, the last 4 years...And the BLM ITSELF was sued to prevent it...and failed... twice... Nine Mile Canyon Quote:

Yes it is about values. It doesn'y mean anything anymore when a President makes a national park or reserves ground for posterity. They found gold in Arkansas and found a way to get that ou of a park. Clinton put a bunch of wilderness in reserve, WILDERNESS. They don't make that anymore in America. Wouldn't you like for your grand kids to be able to raft that river without seeing a dead lake or fish with little red sores all over them? I don't see them sacrificing any BLM land that's rented on 99 year leases to cattle businesses. They could do O.K. with oil wells. It's done all the time in Texas and Oklahoma. No. They give the same leases back to the ranchers to continue to tear up the land with cattle. And give pristine wilderness to the oil companies. That is not land management. It's to hell with your grand kids and money money money.
