Default Republican green-card holder who voted illegally in Texas gets 8 years in prison

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...=.4b37e4f922df

Quote:
On Wednesday, a Tarrant County, Tex., jury convicted 37-year-old Rosa Maria Ortega on two felony charges of illegal voting, for casting a ballot as a noncitizen in 2012 and 2014. Ortega is a green-card holder who was brought to the United States from Mexico when she was an infant, her attorney said.

Ortega was a registered Republican who had been voting for more than a decade, he said. On her voter application, Ortega was faced with only two options — to mark herself as a ‘citizen’ or a ‘noncitizen’ — and didn’t know better, he added.

“She doesn’t know. She’s got this [green] card that says ‘resident’ on it,*so she doesn’t mark that she’s not a citizen,” Birdsall said.*“She had no ulterior motive beyond what she thought, mistakenly, was her civic duty.”

...

Birdsall said Ortega will probably be deported after serving her sentence because she will be a convicted felon. He plans to start an online crowdfunding page for*Ortega, a single mother of four children ages 13 to 16.

8 years and deportation for the Mexican green card holder single mother of four children who has lived here for 37 years and had a plausible explanation. Texas is such a shi*-hole.

I saw a fox news segment on this and they kept saying that she was an illegal immigrant and of course never mentioned she was a registered R...I wonder if they will do the right thing and correct their mistake?

I hope this story gets boosted among the other media. Will be handy when the next alternative facts about 5 million illegals voting start doing the rounds.

Good.
I believe she is unlikely to be the ONLY one. But she nullified the votes of at least five legal citizens.
Left or right.

Now, let's get all of them

8 years for an honest mistake where no one was hurt or killed is not justice - it's unnecessary.

As a Permanent Resident (Green Card holder) you can vote in local and state elections

That depends on the state.

you are correct ; only a little over 40, including Texas

this is the last voting law in Texas written 1800's not changed so far except for women suffrage:

"Every male person subject to none of the foregoing disqualifications, who shall have attained the age of twenty-one years, and who shall be a citizen of the United States, and who shall have resided in this State one year next preceding an election, and the last six months within the district or county in which he offers to vote, shall be deemed a qualified elector; and every male person of foreign birth, subject to none of the foregoing disqualifications, who, at any time before an election, shall have declared his intention to become a citizen of the United States, in accordance with the federal naturalization laws, and shall have resided in this State one year next preceding such election, and the last six months in the county in which he offers to vote, shall also be deemed a qualified elector"
