Turtle McConnel is usually a much smarter political player than this. Can you say Streisand effect:

Senate GOP's effort to shut Warren up backfires
Actually, it's worked just as planned...

Who do Republicans want to be THEE face of the Democrat party?...A reasonable, middle-of-the-road centrist, newcomer Democrat?...

...or a far Leftwing wacko like Warren that will alienate even more of Middle America?...

Why Mitch McConnell Used A Senate Rule To Silence Elizabeth Warren

Quote:
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell handed Sen. Elizabeth Warren and the progressive wing of the Democratic Party the moment they were craving on Tuesday night, when he silenced the Massachusetts senator as she read a letter by a civil rights icon.

But those who are familiar with McConnell insist the Republican leader didn’t make a political miscalculation by invoking an arcane Senate rule. In fact, things went as he planned, they say.

The thinking is that the elevation of Warren and any way to show that Republicans are trying to keep the Senate functioning — even as it grinds to a halt — works in the party’s favor.

“I think everybody inside and outside the Senate knows that McConnell doesn’t do anything without a plan,” said one GOP strategist. “His ability to see around the corner is entirely unrivaled.”

Any attention that people pay to Elizabeth Warren is good for Republicans,” the strategist said. “She just isn’t the type of candidate who would do well in states that Democrats lost last cycle.

I know McConnel is a shrewd sunofabitch, I'm not sure I buy that spin though. The left loves Warren and moving to the center isn't what the party needs to do to get the vote out. You can tell the Republicans are scared of Warren though.

And in other news, GOP members clapped GOP politicians on the back.

You know, if this were about putting somebody least liked out in the public eye, then we should give Elizabeth Warren props for pulling McConnell's strings. Maybe it's her who got McConnell's name in the public eye for doing something stupid...

Not sure how this is a backfire on the R's. Warren broke the rules, was warned, then broke them some more and was punished in accordance with the rules.
Now what we have is the face of the democratic party in the Senate being put in time-out like a petulant child (because she was acting like one). Not sure how that's a win for the D's.
