![]() Newsweek is not known for publishing stories based upon previously debunked information and Newsweek reported on the 22 million "lost" Bush administration emails earlier this year.
The George W. Bush White House ?Lost? 22 Million Emails It isn't a diversion but instead a comparison. Hillary Clinton had very few emails comparatively speaking and from what we've learned that while the were minor lapses in security protocol it never amounted to anything more important than administrative "cause and corrective action" and the State Department has addressed the problem that existing during Hillary Clinton's term as Sect of State that was a continuation of the same minor violations of security protocol at the State Department from the prior administration. The investigation of Hillary Clinton was valuable because it revealed a chronic problem related to security protocol at the State Department that had existed for a very long time. Quote:
Once again this was very careless handling of classified material, just like Hillary Clinton and other members of the State Department when she was Sect of State, but it wasn't criminal behavior. It was a minor violation of security protocol that required administrative "cause and corrective action" that didn't occur until after the tenures of Powell, Rice, and H Clinton that was driven by the investigation into Hillary Clinton. Had it not been for the Republican witch hunt we don't know when, if ever, this careless handling of classified material would have been corrected. Getting back to the current Clinton emails there has been no evidence of how many, if any, related to Hillary Clinton serving as Sect of State and there's certainly no indication that any of them contain any classified information or, even if some do, that they're in any way fundamentally different than the ones the FBI already knows about. It would take a huge substantive difference for any email contents to change this from an administrative cause and corrective action case into a criminal case. Not even wishful thinking supports a belief that such a discovery will be found because nothing of substantive importance has been found in tens of thousands of Clinton emails already reviewed by the FBI. So far this remains much ado about nothing and nothing of importance is what we have every reason to expect will be found.

And, whereas it is certainly true that it does not regularly publish "stories based upon previously debunked information," this is an opinion column. So it does seem fair to assess the background of the author in question. According to Wikipedia, she and her family "moved to the Haight-Ashbury area of San Francisco when she was seven," for a little while. Then they "moved to Baghdad." Then they moved "to an Amish area of Michigan." After which, "Burleigh stated that her family had 'rejected institutional religion' by the time she grew up in the 1970s. "No baptism, no family Bible recording the births, deaths and marriages.'" So her opinion may well have been influenced by these influences upon her life. (Actually, how could it not have been?)
