OK sourceboy...Let's have it...

She threw out more corrupt GOPers from the Alaskan government than possibly every former governor put together...

The "division politics" you speak of is actually dividing the Republican Party between the old school, corrupt, political machine longtimers and the new guard of Republicans unwilling to continue that tradition...

And there are few "great leaders" from either side of the aisle that has done that...

So let's have some proof to your assertion...

REAL PROOF...Not "I heard a waitress say Palin's a racist" kind-of-proof...

Here's one
In October 2005, Republican Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska became the object of strong media criticism when he opposed diverting the Gravina and Knik Arm Bridge funds to help aid recovery from Hurricane Katrina. In his speech on the Senate floor, Stevens threatened to quit Congress if the funds were removed from his state.

In 2005, Congress stripped the specific earmark allocation of federal funds for the two bridges, without changing the amount of money allocated for use by Alaska.During her campaign for Governor, Sarah Palin visited Ketchikan in September of 2006 to address her support for the Gravina Island Bridge project. At a forum in Ketchikan, Palin was seen holding up a t-shirt designed by a Ketchikan artist, Mary Ida Henrikson with "Nowhere Alaska 99901" on it, referencing the buzzword of Bridge to 'Nowhere', and the primary zip code of Ketchikan, Alaska. At the same forum, she was quoted: "OK, you’ve got Valley trash standing here in the middle of nowhere,” Palin said. “I think we’re going to make a good team as we progress that bridge project."

On October 21, 2006 Alaska gubernatorial candidate Sarah Palin was quoted saying she would continue state funding for the bridge. "The window is now, while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist," she said

At a Chamber of Commerce meeting in Wasilla on October 27, 2006, Knowles criticized Palin for supporting the Knik Arm Bridge, Ketchikan's Gravina Island Bridge and the road north out of Juneau instead of rebuilding the Parks Highway. Then when Knowles got to Juneau he promised to build the Juneau road, plus a second bridge to Douglas Island. Only Palin is consistent in support all of the projects..In August 2007, Alaska's Department of Transportation stated that it was "leaning" toward alternative ferry options, citing bridge costs, despite having already received the funds from the federal government.

The project was canceled in 2007 by bridge supporter Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, who changed her view after national public opinion turned against the bridge for being wasteful spending

“ Ketchikan desires a better way to reach the airport, but the $398 million bridge is not the answer. Despite the work of our congressional delegation, we are about $329 million short of full funding for the bridge project, and it’s clear that Congress has little interest in spending any more money on a bridge between Ketchikan and Gravina Island. Much of the public’s attitude toward Alaska bridges is based on inaccurate portrayals of the projects here. But we need to focus on what we can do, rather than fight over what has happened.

~ AK Gov. Sarah Palin
Asked why she initially supported the bridge, Palin's communications director Bill McAllister said, "It was never at the top of her priority list, and in fact the project isn't necessarily dead … there's still the potential for improved ferry service or even a bridge of a less costly design... She changed her mind, he said, when "she saw that Alaska was being perceived as taking from the country and not giving ..."

The city of Ketchikan has already begun to develop roads and a small amount of infrastructure for the Gravina Island's 50 inhabitants. However, residents continue to seek funding for the Ketchikan-Gravina span

On August 29, 2008, when introduced as Republican Presidential nominee John McCain's running mate, Palin told the crowd: "I told Congress, thanks but no thanks on that bridge to nowhere" — a line that garnered big applause but upset political leaders in Ketchikan. Palin's campaign coordinator in the city, Republican Mike Elerding, remarked, "She said 'thanks but no thanks,' but they kept the money." Democratic Mayor Bob Weinstein also criticized Palin for using the very term 'bridge to nowhere' that she had said was insulting when she was in favor of the bridge.

In early September, the McCain campaign released a television advertisement that said, "She stopped the Bridge to Nowhere." Howard Kurtz called this a "whopper", writing: "She endorsed the remote project while running for governor in 2006, claimed to be an opponent only after Congress killed its funding the next year and has used the $223 million provided for it for other state ventures."

This sentence is all I needed...

She stops the bridge, then her attackers give their opinion on why she did so...

BTW...Wanna guess which two people (whom are both Senators) APPROVED the bridge to nowhere?...

Obama and Biden Voted for Bridge to Nowhere

Quote:
Though Gov. Palin originally supported the earmark spending on the Ketchikan bridge (“to nowhere), she eventually killed the project, chosing to spend Federal money on other infrasturcture programs.

However, Sen. Biden and Sen. Obama voted for funding the Bridge, even when given a second chance by Sen. Tom Coburn, who proposed shifting earmark funds to Katrina relief.

Sen. McCain did not vote on the Coburn Amendment, though he is on record as opposing the Ketchikan bridge earmark.
So even if the accusations of Palin changing her stance for political reasons, the end result is she still DID THE RIGHT THING...

Unlike 2 Senators that believe that they are as originally wrong as Palin and STAYED WRING on the issue...even making the fact that they were wrong part of their public record!...

You know what's funny(and by funny, I mean sad)?...

The fact that she flip-flopped to the CORRECT decision but you still want to punish her for doing so...

If she DIDN'T flip-flop and said "I want the bridge to nowhere still.", would your contention be "Good thing she didn't flip-flop and choose the correct measure and instead held her wrong position."?...

I don't think so...

She kept the money and did else with it than was intended. She even posed for pictures with Tshirts to gain the support of the people on the island who really didn't know if they wanted a bridge or a fairy.
Then she blackened the names of her predecessors for political gain. It's the same old story.
Oh I'm learning a lot about this gal.
Take the blinders off, redd. See that you don't want Obama and that's O.K.
But don't let this dame pull that old Judge Judy line on you. See her for real.

Not difficult...

"Obama uses earmarks. I don't."

"We're gonna change Washington..."

Back to what it was 20-40 years ago.

Look, I don't have a problem with Sarah Palin, but I have a problem with her using divide and conquer to get votes. Surely she cannot believe that in the cases of incest or rape that abortion is not an option... That is not a life to be had for the child or the mother. Surely she cannot believe that her "gay friends" if she really has any as she claims, are undeserving of equal treatment in terms of benefits. What kind of friend would take a benefit and deprive that same benefit to others?
She has systematically supported the earmark system and now she wants to change it?

Basically, there are two options.

A) She believes what she says. This is the saddest one. This means that she really is a creepy person who has boxed herself into a cone of ignorance. or...

B) She really believes closer to what the majority of America believes, and she's just taking these crazy hardline position to get votes.

Either way, the positions she has taken on social issues have been created in such a fashion as to divide the voting population. "Can't have the gays and women who've had abortions at the party... Anyone who supports them either. They have to be able to treat people unfairly as I would want them treated."

I'm just sick of it. I want it to end.

Please explain to me this "division politics" you're talking about? Seems to me with an 80% approval rating and the Democrats in Alaska giving her the nod of assent, she's got a reputation for uniting behind what matters: the people.

John McCain used to be a man I respected. I really am sad that I've lost respect for the man over the course of this election. He used to be a principled libertarian in a Republican coat. He wanted the government out of our lives and he wanted fiscal responsibility. Since the 2000 election, his actions (voting record) have proven time an time again that those values are no longer his core values and that he's willing to embrace everything I find repulsive about the right wing of his party just to get elected.
Sort of like how Barrack Obama sells out the very people he wants to have elect him by talking poorly about them when he's around his latte sucking friends in San Francisco? Or sort of like how Barrack Obama claims to put racial issues to rest while sitting at the feet of one of the most racist religious figures in America? Or how he claims to be such a community activist while hopping in bed with slum lords and race baiters?

I still love and respect John McCain because he is a class act compared to "the other guy".

I miss the 'real' John McCain circa 2000. How's that for a little 'straight talk'?
Straight talk? Sounded more like twisted liberal rhetoric to me.

Division politics is the game by which an individual exploits insignificant differences in targeted group policies in order to garner support. Gay marriage and abortion are two of the most commonly used topics. Until Sarah Palin entered the race, those two topics were essentially back-burner topics for all of those except those most interested in those two topics as primary issue topics. John McCain circa 2000 (the real McCain) and Obama's positions on these two issues are not dissimilar enough to cause concern. McCain wouldn't appoint judges to overturn abortion rights nor would he pass the Amendment to define marriage on the federal level. Obama wouldn't/couldn't expand abortion rights nor is he in favor of a federal solution. The same cannot be said about Palin. The majority of the people do not hold the same extreme values as Palin. They are fine with states making the decision on marriage (for the most part) and fine with a continuation of abortion rights (at least in a limited form).

And McCain isn't doing the same? He hasn't shifted his positions for political gain? He hasn't submitted to the will of the most extreme in his party by appointing Palin to the ticket? The consensus is that he wanted Lieberman but was trumped, this is the reason for Palin. The extreme religious leaders on the right aren't clamoring around him now? Funny. I remember him publicly denouncing a religious leader just like Obama while claiming the desire to expand the values of the Republican party to minority communities. And, if you are a community organizer, you're going to have to deal with "slum lords" from time to time to get things accomplished. You have to deal with the people who own property in the community in order to improve things.

I still love and respect John McCain because he is a class act compared to "the other guy".

He's generally classy, but he's no longer the man that was destroyed by Rove. He's moved to the right and his record proves it. Does he believe it (the issues he's voted with Bush on)? I don't buy that he does. I think he's just moved to the right to please the party and I pray that he moves back to the center once he's allowed to be his own man.

Straight talk? Sounded more like twisted liberal rhetoric to me.
An opinion you are entitled to.
