[QUOTE=rivrrat;643381Not to mention the fact that for many women, giving up a child they've given birth to is not an option. I know I sure as f*ck wouldn't be able to do it.[/QUOTE]

That first meeting with the newborn sure does do a number, eh?

That and the fact that I grew up in adoption homes. I would never do that to a kid.

you dont have to take time off work just because you cant get it up. I'd say any condition that forces you to take off work should probably be covered by insurance OR better yet prevention of that condition should be a priority.

Well then, please clarify: Is pregnancy an injury, a disease, or a disorder, in your opinion?

If it does not fit into any of these categories, the argument about "tak[ing] time off work" is meaningless...

neither; it's a medical condition by today's medical association standards and practices.

a medical condition that is not a disease or injury but requires time off work is commonly thought to be something insurances should cover. And I agree that devices for the pursuit of happiness of the male prostate should be covered also.

Video at the link.
I've got a religious objection to penis pumps. I think that needs to be stopped...
Will Congress honor my objection?
Sarcasm aside, medicare shouldn't be paying for penis pumps, birth control, most abortion, breast implants, liposuction, or any thing else that isn't medically neccessary. Religion has nothing to do with it.

And what, precisely, is meant by the phrase, "is commonly thought to be"? (I really do not much care for the passive voice, as it tends to mask a very vague thought. In this case, it begs the question: "[C]ommonly thought" by whom? And according to what rationale?)

by the people who pay premiums for insurance to cover them.
Even if the mother is healthy as a horse there is always the potential for a life threatening problem. Not to mention a baby that we have no real idea is going to come into this world needing medical intervention.
are you insinuating live birth delivery should NOT be covered by insurance?

Actually, I do not see any evidence to substantiate this assertion.

But even if it were true, so what? Insurers should be free to cover whatever they wish; and, if their potential customers do not like their choices in this regard, they should feel free to take their business elsewhere.

I am not "insinuating" anything.

In post #10 in this thread, I said the following:

Quote:
If a private healthcare plan wishes to cover maternity care and prenatal care, it should be free to do so.
I will stand by that...
