Cool William Ayers - Domestic Terrorist?

Personally, I think that William Ayers is an unrepentent domestic terrorist that slipped through the cracks of legal system. He is now a professor of English in Chicago, married to his partner in crime from the radical bombing days. Here is some background on the man they call Bill Ayers:

Monday, May 5, 2008
A 2001 photo of William Ayers, an associate of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, shows the former terrorist stepping on an American flag.

The photo was taken to promote Ayers’s book, “Fugitive Days” and published by Chicago Mag for their August 2001 issue.
As Obama has gained national prominence as a Democratic presidential contender media figures have questioned his relationship with Ayers. Ayers once hosted a fundraiser for Obama and the two have served together on the board of a philanthropic organization.

In a nationally televised debate Obama compared his friendship with Ayers to that of conservative Republican Sen. Tom Coburn and that the offensive activities Ayers participated in happened long ago.

ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos asked, “Can you explain that relationship for the voters, and explain to Democrats why it won't be a problem?”

Obama replied that Ayers “is a guy who lives in my neighborhood, who's a professor of English in Chicago, who I know and who I have not received some official endorsement from. He's not somebody who I exchange ideas from on a regular basis. And the notion that somehow as a consequence of me knowing somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago when I was 8 years old, somehow reflects on me and my values, doesn't make much sense, George. The fact is, is that I'm also friendly with Tom Coburn, one of the most conservative Republicans in the United States Senate, who during his campaign once said that it might be appropriate to apply the death penalty to those who carried out abortions.”

Here are Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn posing for the camera. They were partners in crime during the "Weather Underground" terrorist days and are currently husband and wife.

Former '60s Radical Is Now Considered Mainstream in Chicago
CHICAGO, April 17
In the 1960s, Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn saw themselves as urban guerrillas who just might be able to overthrow the U.S. government and force an end to the Vietnam War. They were members of the Weather Underground, a radical offshoot of the antiwar movement, who went into hiding for a decade after a bomb accidentally exploded, killing three members of the group.

Nearly 30 years after surrendering to police, Ayers and Dohrn, both in their 60s, are tenured university professors whose work on school reform and juvenile justice have won them bipartisan respect.

Ayers is an informal adviser to Mayor Richard M. Daley and has been awarded more than $50 million in charitable grants for his promotion of small schools as a solution to a crisis in education. Dohrn lectures widely on children's law and serves on a variety of boards and committees. Together, they have raised three boys in the intellectual haven of Hyde Park, where Sen. Barack Obama is a neighbor.

For months, their connection to the Democratic presidential candidate -- they hosted a gathering for him in 1995 when he first ran for the state Senate and later contributed $200 to his reelection campaign -- has been a source of growing anger among conservatives. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaign picked up on the connection to suggest skeletons in Obama's closet. On Wednesday night in a televised debate with her rival, Clinton (N.Y.) mentioned it as "an issue that certainly the Republicans will be raising."

Obama Friend, Terrorist Supporter Ayres Speaks Out
Thursday 17 April 2008
’’I don’t regret setting bombs. I feel we didn’t do enough.’’
’’Everything was absolutely ideal on the day I bombed the Pentagon."

September 11, 2001 will live in infamy. As a historical coincidence, a leader in American Terrorism, Bill Ayres, a leading member of the Weather Underground, a terrorist organization of a generation ago. had an interview published in the NY Times the morning of 9/11/, before his ideological progeny killed thousands of innocent Americans.

Note that he is married to Bernadine Dohrn, who plead guilty her participation in terrorist support groups. They are also raising the child of terrorists parents, who are in jail for their vicious acts.

Here are key statements from Ayres in the 9/11/01 NY Times article:

"Mr. Ayers, who in 1970 was said to have summed up the Weatherman philosophy as: ’’Kill all the rich people. Break up their cars and apartments. Bring the revolution home, kill your parents, that’s where it’s really at,’’ is today distinguished professor of education at the University of Illinois at Chicago. And he says he doesn’t actually remember suggesting that rich people be killed or that people kill their parents, but ’’it’s been quoted so many times I’m beginning to think I did,’’ he said. ’’It was a joke about the distribution of wealth.’’

"So, would Mr. Ayers do it all again, he is asked? ’’I don’t want to discount the possibility,’’ he said."

"In 1967 he met Ms. Dohrn in Ann Arbor, Mich. She had a law degree from the University of Chicago and was a magnetic speaker who often wore thigh-high boots and miniskirts. In 1969, after the Manson family murders in Beverly Hills, Ms. Dohrn told an S.D.S. audience: ’’Dig it! Manson killed those pigs, then they ate dinner in the same room with them, then they shoved a fork into a victim’s stomach.’’

Obama once visited '60s radicals
2/22/08
In 1995, State Senator Alice Palmer introduced her chosen successor, Barack Obama, to a few of the district’s influential liberals at the home of two well known figures on the local left: William Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn.

While Ayers and Dohrn may be thought of in Hyde Park as local activists, they’re better known nationally as two of the most notorious — and unrepentant — figures from the violent fringe of the 1960s anti-war movement.

Now, as Obama runs for president, what two guests recall as an unremarkable gathering on the road to a minor elected office stands as a symbol of how swiftly he has risen from a man in the Hyde Park left to one closing in fast on the Democratic nomination for president.

“I can remember being one of a small group of people who came to Bill Ayers’ house to learn that Alice Palmer was stepping down from the senate and running for Congress,” said Dr. Quentin Young, a prominent Chicago physician and advocate for single-payer health care, of the informal gathering at the home of Ayers and his wife, Dohrn. “[Palmer] identified [Obama] as her successor.”

Obama and Palmer “were both there,” he said.

In 2001, Ayers published Fugitive Days: A Memoir.
Ayers's interview with the New York Times about his book was published on September 11, 2001, and opens with his statement, "I don't regret setting bombs, I feel we didn't do enough." The interview also includes his reaction (in his book) to Emile De Antonio's 1976 documentary film about the Weathermen: "He was 'embarrassed by the arrogance, the solipsism, the absolute certainty that we and we alone knew the way. The rigidity and the narcissism." Ayers stated that by "no regrets" he meant that he didn't regret his efforts to oppose the Vietnam War, and that "we didn't do enough" meant that efforts to stop the war were obviously inadequate as it dragged on for a decade. New Politics reviewer Jesse Lemisch has contrasted Ayers's recollections with those of other Weathermen and alleged serious factual errors.

In the fall of 2006, Ayers was asked not to attend a progressive educators' conference on the basis that the organizers did not want to risk an association with his past.

What is your opinion on William Ayers. Can his "clean living" over the past few decades erase his past criminal behavior, and do you think that his friendship/association with Barrack Obama may hurt the candidates chance of election this November?

There is no "clean living" on Ayers' part...

Hwe's Ayers' 2007 reunion of the SDS, which is a Socialist society created in the realm of Communism, still begging for the "change" he wanted as part of the Weather Underground when he was making bombs...

Amazing how after all these years, his ideology remains the same. And he is actually passing this on to his students in one way or another. I wonder if the students actually understand this concept?

And Obama is just fine with that. He's a friend.

And people will actually vote for him.
