Default Article: I locked our toddler in his room every night to save my marriage

This couple locked their toddler son in his room as he would not stay in his bed.

What do you think? Cruel or understandable. Did you have problems with your children not staying in their beds? Did you have to use extreme measures such as this. Did you have tricks to keep them in their beds. Perhaps you sat with them till they fell asleep. Share your experiences and tips.

Crappy parents. Not only for locking the kid in (the minor issue), but for failing to nip this in the bud early on (the REAL issue). They enabled the kid to act this way. Had they taken steps the first time the kid decided to not stay in bed, they wouldn't have had this issue. These are the kind of parents who never tell thier kid "No" and if they do, they don't enforce it. They think that you can take a person who doesn't understand what authority is and coddle them into being a person. There are some kids that this works for and some that don't. This kid is clearly one of those that it doesn't work for. Instead of trying molly-coddle him, they should have punished him the first time he was told to stay in bed and failed to do so. Locking him in his room isn't that horrible (it definitely has a downside), but letting him get to a point where he has to be locked in his room because he has no respect for his parent's authority is piss-poor parenting.
