Walmart is the beast that we created. We want everything as cheap as we can get it, and are willing to dedicate ourselves to a store that can. Walmart found one of the best ways to do it, and as such has profited.

Walmarts don't bother me anymore because they aren't killing competition near me. Almost all stores are corporate owned or franchised now, very few independent stores. Walmart helps to create jobs.

Surprisingly where I now live there are a lot of independent businesses thriving. But I think that is due to the planning commission. Walmart wanted to put in a second store on the other end of town. The city didn't say they couldn't just that they had to do certain things to avoid traffic tie ups (I think it had to do with where the entry/exits were going to be. Walmart backed out for now.
Otherwise I have seen devastation across the country from Walmart.
Once I thought it was just the natural progression. like we used to have small grocers then super markets then malls now Kmart and Walmart. But the company does now have an absolute monopoly from one end of the business to the other. from China/India all the way to the consumer.
I dont have a vendetta against them but I avoid them when I can simply because it wears me out to walk through their store. Too big and I like to be able to find what I need and leave.

Walmart has done real damage to my parent's town. Mom and pop businesses didn't survive the opening of Walmart.

Many years ago, I thought the giant superstore was marginally ok because they were a place that sold "Made In America" products. Now most of their stuff is made somewhere else.

I never understood the hatred for Walmart. I have no problem with them. They create a ton of jobs and offer products light on the wallet. I am all for that.

I don't buy into the whole "I hate Wal-Mart because they destroy jobs" mentality, since Wal-Mart does help a community's poorest. What I have a problem with is how Wal-Mart treats its employees. They call themselves a family oriented business, yet they are opening thier doors at 8PM for Black THURSDAY. So much for getting to spend time with your families, Wal-Mart employees - kiss great-grandma good-night and get your ass on the sales floor.

Dude... that's just the way it is in certain jobs. I didn't get a holiday off regularly for nearly a decade. (ditto for my parents, for that matter)

So, based on that alone, I really can't say that wal mart treats its employees poorly.

And I also (like you) don't buy into the demonization of walmart. Walmart doesn't close down smaller businesses... the local customers do. They are to 'blame', not walmart.

Companies like these are about the dollars first last and in between, It's why when I hear people bitch about environmental regs being put on some big mining and drilling companies all I have to do is to look and see how these same companies operate in other countries where they don't have the regs we do and see the waste they leave behind. You know they would do it here if they could.

So Wal-Mart employees unionize, labor costs go up, prices go up to compensate and the poorest people in town pay the price. Are you so dense that you can't follow that train to it's logical and simple conclusion??
