Baby is born, then dies in school bathroom

Students who knew the 14-year-old said the nurse at Cedar Bayou Junior School in Baytown believed the student was having cramps Wednesday and sent her back to class, the Houston Chronicle reported. A school official confirmed the girl had been to see the nurse.

"Nobody realized she was pregnant. She never told the nurse or any of us," said Eleni Maiden, a schoolmate who said she had known the other girl for nine years.

Maiden said she saw the girl on her way to the bathroom. Her friend told her she had decided not to go back to the nurse.

Soon after, the girl was taken to the hospital.

Investigators told the newspaper they believe the baby was born alive and died when the girl tried to flush it down the toilet. She could face a homicide charge.

In this story, there's simply too much stupidity to go around...

Good Lord!..I've heard of this kind of thing before and it's so sad..

Me too. Several times. One was a prom night in a N.J. school and both were charged for murder, but I never followed up on the story. The same when an 7 or 8 year old was informed she was pregnant, her reply as I recall it was you mean like now I will have a real doll. I think she was from Chicago.

The exact same thing just happened on an airplane recently. I think the parents of the girl are to blame.

Clearly the school nurse is a moron. How do you examine a girl and not recognize things like third trimester pregnancy "ready to pop" and "labor?"

The nurse ought to be fired in my opinion. She didn't even call the kid's parents and just ordered her back to class.
