Default Valuation

From an owner/manager viewpoint, I expect to pay workers with education and/or experience more than I expect to pay someone without education or experience.

I base that expectation on simple accounting.

The worker has invested time and in the case of education, possibly money, into improving their skills/knowledge. If I am getting the benefit of that investment, I have to pay for that investment (so to speak) via a greater compensation.

I have noted that many have what appears to be a disdain for education, and I was curious as to find how those individuals would value workers via pay.

Nobody has a disdain for education. The successful people on here have a disdain for the arrogance of a grad who thinks they know everything. You and your piece of paper get a foot in the door, that's all. From there you learn the real job and prove you didn't waste a couple hundred thousand on that piece of paper.

Education and actual job experience are two different planets........

And people in general offer up a whole new set of variables......

Some folks like to work hard and some folks are just plain lazy.....

Education has nothing to do with work ethic.....

So you give preference to education over a lack there of?

True. Positive or negative. It does however show, generally speaking, that one can be trained.

You equate schooling with education and experience as not being educated. I see a four year degree and four years job experience slightly in favor of the job experience because that is actually doing the job not just reading about it. I also take into account a persons attitude in the process, I may just not like you and that pulls every offer off the table. On the other hand I may like you despite your lack of schooling or field experience and take a chance. A diploma in no way guarantees you are the best person for the job no matter what the school or your teacher told you.

To be honest, at this point, that isn't much of a problem. The law is generally about research, research, and more research. In the legal field, generally speaking, it's later in a legal career that you have that sort of problem.

I am using education in the formal sense.

That does not mean that experience means a lack of education, just generally formal education unless of course you're talking about later in a career.

I think it depends on the job.

I think you have to.

No. An education SHOULD provide you with the tools necessary to do the job and do the job well. And that education should provide you with more information than experience alone could ever provide. That doesn't always happen of course. It varies from person to person.
