Correct...

And gay marriage is NOT a Civil Rights issue...

This idea of "believe it's a civil right or I will you call you spineless" is disturbing...

Umm.. but it IS a civil rights issue. Just as interracial marriage was a civil rights issue, so is the blatant gender/sex discrimination in marriage now one.

Exactly. You'd rebel with the South and say that rights are state issues.

I don't think you're spineless. I just think you're a dangerous combination of apathetic and dense.

No rebellion is involved, even the President agreed with Dick Cheney that it is a state issue.

Poor redd, always put upon.

Perhaps his opinion will evolve even further. I'm very optimistic that this issue won't be an issue much longer. I hope he sees that there are many federal rights we straight married people have that same-sex married couples don't have. To exclude rights from a group of people that are afforded to other people is a civil rights issue...and a nasty one at that.

Slavery was a state's rights issue too. So is women's rights.

Of course Dick Cheney agrees. He was probably pro slavery when he fought for the Confederacy.

Using your "logic" Obama must be pro slavery because he thinks gay marriage is a state issue. Brilliant.

The first Republican President campaigned on an abolition plarform. He thought it was a Federal issue. Clearly the Confederate states thought he considered it a Federal issue as well. Your assertion is utter nonsense.

And have said as much. That he has the wrong position and that his position was only out to gain clout politically and then he lost it for me.

The Confederate states thought it wasn't a federal issue... That's why they tried to leave. Man you're dense.

Oh, and that Republican... He was a liberal.

You rebuke Obama while claiming Cheney is pro slavery for the same policy position. Cheers for the double standard.

The Confederacy held the states could decide the issue of slavery themselves? That is a novel theory. Robert E Lee wrote that it was a problem the Cofederacy would have to deal with slavery as a national issue. Oh I know, all the Confederate states just happened to agree that slavery was good.
