North Carolina Pastor Sean Harris: Parents Should 'Punch' Their Gay-Acting Children
Huffpost 05/01/2012 A North Carolina pastor's horrific anti-gay tirade is making the blogosphere rounds. Sean Harris, senior pastor of Berean Baptist Church in Fayetteville, spoke at length in support of North Carolina's proposed Amendment 1, which would define marriage in the state constitution as between one man and one woman and would outlaw civil unions and domestic partnerships, during an hour-long sermon on Sunday. ....................... Notes Harris: "So your little son starts to act a little girlish when he is four years old and instead of squashing that like a cockroach and saying, 'Man up, son, get that dress off you and get outside and dig a ditch, because that is what boys do,' you get out the camera and you start taking pictures of Johnny acting like a female and then you upload it to YouTube and everybody laughs about it and the next thing you know, this dude, this kid is acting out childhood fantasies that should have been squashed. Dads, the second you see your son dropping the limp wrist, you walk over there and crack that wrist. Man up. Give him a good punch. Ok? You are not going to act like that. You were made by God to be a male and you are going to be a male. And when your daughter starts acting too butch, you reign [sic] her in. And you say, 'Oh, no, sweetheart. You can play sports. Play them to the glory of God. But sometimes you are going to act like a girl and walk like a girl and talk like a girl and smell like a girl and that means you are going to be beautiful. You are going to be attractive. You are going to dress yourself up.'" >snip< http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/0...n_1468618.html Gays, stop bullying Christians! Stop it right now! All Christians want is to love their neighbors and make the world a better place. They're trying to help you, don't you get it? They're trying to save your sinning souls from the fiery abyss. So what if they advocate abusing gay children? If God had meant for girls to do something besides play dress-up and be decorative, He would've given them brains. There's nothing wrong with beating the devil out of children when they get funny ideas about straying from socially normative gender role stereotypes. "Limp-wristed" little boys and "butch" little girls make the baby Jesus cry. |

This is a mega-church with a congregation of thousands, and a school (grades K-12) with over 400 students enrolled. Berean Baptist Church: Fayetteville, NC - Proclaiming Christ in the 21st Century From the "Our Beliefs" section (the very first item, in fact): 1. A pastor must fear God and be accountable to Him. When a congregation feels a pastor no longer fears God, he should be voted out of his office. Berean Baptist Church: Fayetteville, NC - Proclaiming Christ in the 21st Century Pastor Sean Harris has not, at the present time, been "voted out of office" by his congregation. |

Seems like there has been some serious back peddling of late from Mr. Harris and his remarks....
Pastor Sean Harris Apologizes For 'Punch Gays' Sermon A Fayetteville, N.C., pastor has apologized after urging parents during a sermon to hit children who showed signs of homosexuality. Pastor Sean Harris of Berean Baptist Church made the comments, widely circulated on the Internet, in a sermon Sunday, WXII-TV, Winston-Salem, N.C., reported. "Dads, the second you see that son dropping the limp wrist, you walk over there and crack that wrist. Man up. Give them a good punch. OK?" Harris said in the sermon. Harris' comments came a week before North Carolina voters were to consider an amendment to the state's constitution limiting legal unions to marriage between a man and a woman. In an apology on the church's Web site, CNN reported, Harris wrote: "I did not say anything to intentionally offend anyone in the LGBT community. My intent was to communicate the truth of the Word of God concerning marriage. My words were not scripted. It is unfortunate I was not more careful and deliberate." In the sermon, Harris also said parents who see boys dressing like girls should be "squashing that like a cockroach." He said he had received e-mails from more than 300 people upset by his comments. "I know what it was like for me growing up, knowing I was different and knowing I was gay. I can only [shudder] to imagine how a gay kid sitting in the pews would feel after hearing that," said Stuart Campbell, executive director of Equality NC. CNN said Harris told the Fayetteville Observer his comments were meant as a joke. And WXII-TV reported he said: "The people who listen to me preach every Sunday understood that I was not advocating that a father would do such a thing. The context of the sermon, the words that immediately followed with regards to loving homosexuals provided the balance, provided the context to what I was saying. "But if you remove it, and isolate the quote, then I can clearly understand how someone would be offended. And that's why I issued a statement of apology." (c) UPI |

If his congregation thinks he's crazy but doesn't have the heart to reject him, what's the point of going to church? Why go there, if not for moral and spiritual succor and guidance? If they don't feel that Pastor Harris is providing these things, then why go sit and listen to him every week? Why not replace him with a pastor who isn't crazy? If the congregation wants to listen to a crazy man making objectionable "jokes", they could go to a late-night comedy club. It seems like they'd want something more than that from their church experience. |

![]() There are too many people running around trying to insist that homosexuality and gay rights infringe upon their religious freedoms. When the right stops repeating that idiocy, then I'll consider that as something that can be done. ![]() Until then, it's obviously relevant, by the right's own admission. ![]() Quote:
Is there no thread that people won't try to make about Obama? ![]() I personally don't blame any member of the congregation for sitting in the pews despite this foolishness. I won't automatically believe that the members of the congregation believe Pastor Harris's statements. So what's the right's consistency? ![]() Are they going to believe that members of the congregation automatically believe what Pastor Harris said is right? Or should I just take it as a for-gone conclusion that the right is trying to change the subject, yet again... ![]()
