Doesn't matter what my native language is. All that matters is I feel like speaking in whatever language I feel like speaking in.

LOL
A couple of weeks ago, one o fmy co-workers mentioned that he wanted to learn more Klingon - the conversation went soemthing like this:

Co-worker A: "This year I want to learn more Klingon."
faithful_servant" "How much Klingon do you know now."
cwA: "One word - "k'plah". Do you know what that means.
fs: "Die well."
Co-worker J: "Die well"???
fs: "It's used kind of like 'Aloha'. It's Good-bye, 'Hello', whatever.
cwJ: <singing> "I don't why you say 'Good-bye', I say 'kplah'. K'plah, k'plah, I don't know why you say 'Good-bye, I say 'k'plah'".
fs: <laughing so hard, I'm crying and picturing four Klingons with bowl haircuts singing Beatles songs>

Personally, I think that if the market rules better without a lot of govt regulations, then it follows that labor must be able to freely flow to where the need is.

As far as "the illegal crowd" goes, whenever anything is illegal, it goes underground and citizens lose complete control over having it regulated. Prohibition of Hispanics freely coming to the USA to work means that when they do sneak in, they are far less likely to leave, because getting back in next year is so difficult.

The best of both worlds would be to let them come and work and freely go home, which is how it always used to happen. The getting tough on letting people in makes it less risky to just stay in the USA and sneak the family in, rather than keep the family in Mexico and work here which is how it was until the borders closed so much.

This is libertarian, not liberal: Open the borders. Let people come and go freely. Let the market control the flow between countries.

This is sensible: Give people who cross either way, appropriate papers. Put them in the computer and track them through jobs and uses of services, tickets or other violations. Tax them. Encourage them to keep their families at home, where it is far less expensive for them to live. When they don't have papers, it is impossible to track them.
I agree with the broad stokes of your policy regarding migrant labor. With appropriate controls the US had a program for seasonal migrant workers primarily from Mexico to come to the US, work in the fields and then return back home. It was called the Bracero program.

Why don't we have it today? Because Caesar Chavez's UFW and their Dimocrat allies did away with the program. The workers were nonunion and so Federal law had to be revised in favor of the UFW. Naturally this history gets repressed by the open-borders crowd chanting Chavez's famous slogan "si se puede."

It makes good sense to implement a modern day Bracero program but only in the context of having a secure border with Mexico. Otherwise why would people bother participating?

I know. It was a big mistake. Those workers were being treated abysmally. I don't know how long you have lived in the Phx, but I went to high school there in the 50's. My uncle was a cattleman who got into grapes. The braceros were paid pennies and lived in communal huts with only a water pump outside. The kids worked too. It was ghastly third world misery, but they got paid and went home for the winter.

By the time Cesar Chavez got active (He was born in AZ) nothing had gotten better. So he used the bleeding hearts and the law. We all buy grapes at reasonable prices today, yet the workers are paid somewhat better. We hardly notice the difference in our own budgets.

but as we try to control the free flow of braceros, it means more people find it easier to stake claims in the US, then going home and trying to come back. Having that anchor baby became part of their plan to stake legal claims to staying, because the border was so expensive and dangerous. It wiped out a families' yearly profits to get back in. It is now less expensive to stay and sneak the rest of the family in. It's about money. It costs too much to go home and come back.

I pot is taxed and the border is opened for a free flow of labor, and each person is fully ID'd, we'd lose a lot of our current complaints about illegals.

Maybe he shouldn't be a citizen of this country, assuming that he is.

Perhaps we can trade him for a foreigner who is willing to assimilate.

Either learn English or go somewhere where they speak your language if ours is not good enough.
