FRONTLINE: "Cheney's Law" Watch it Online

"They believed that the president could do as he liked, even if Congress,
even if the Supreme Court said he couldn't..."

Quote:
For three decades Vice President Dick Cheney conducted a secretive, behind-closed-doors campaign to give the president virtually unlimited wartime power. Finally, in the aftermath of 9/11, the Justice Department and the White House made a number of controversial legal decisions. I disagree with the contention that the president and vice-president believe they can do as they like. I believe the president and vice-president intend to restore the powers of the president to what it once was and should be. I believe they are challenging as many rights and powers as possible so that the Congress can't just claim certain rights because the Executive branch failed to assert or defend them. If certain powers are to belong to Congress let them be so decided by a higher authority and not just given away through non-use or default.

This program uses music and the attitudes of some of the interviewees to paint the president & vice-president in a sinister light when I see their acting to maintain the proper balance of power for the executive branch.

Not "extraordinary" in any way...

Compared to what Lincoln & FDR did, Bush is a Liberal Progressive...
